I'm not surprised. 2010 was a horrific year for mmos.
Playing: Diablo 3, Tribes Ascend, Skyrim Disappointed by open beta feedback: GW2 Let's be honest, the only people who are bothered by DRM are pirates. Companies have a right to protect their IP. |

And to anyone enjoying STO...GREAT!!! It's fine that you do...I 'wanted' to and gave Cryptic many MANY chances...imo, they (and the game) failed. My sub is still active because I figured I'd play it for at least a year (/doh!) - but there's NOTHING they'll be able to "add" or "fix" that will inspire me to go back now. They (Cryptic) drained every bit of patience and desire I had from me with such a miserably poor game at launch. But hey, I helped pay for your development - enjoy!! :) |

I guess they have to give the award to someone.... |

It also scored fourth for "Biggest Disappointment" (third if you don't count "None of the Above"). It didn't have a whole lot of competition. |

when you look at there competition like hello kitty, love and lego, its not to tough to see why it won. but there also thrid for biggest disapointment |

So how much did they pay to have been given these awards for a piss poor game that i am quite frankly pretty surprised its still running. Apart from the award of being the 3rd/4th most disspointing game (should have been higher than that). Oh wait, must be the fanboi's and hardcore players if done on a pole using many alias's to hype the score vote. |

I can't think of a single postive "award winning" game, let alone MMO, that was selling for $2.50 less than a year after launch. And one, that is threatening to go F2P just a soon as it can, without facing consumer lawsuits on behalf of customers who bought lifetime subs. All Massively did with this "award" was severely damage their own credibility. It would have been better to not hand out the award at all, as bad a year for MMOs as it was.

All the haters in this thread sure are bent out of shape STO won. The poll was up for days and anyone could have easily voted for Hello Kitty online or any other MMO just to make sure STO didn't win. No, it won by a huge margin in most catagories. Reminds me of the people who whine about lack of PVP in AoC. Funcom sent out surveys to its subscribers on what it should focus on and what came back was a lack of interest in enhancing PVP in that game as most wanted more PVE content. Seems like the vocal minority that whines the most. .. .... .- - . - .-. --- .-.. .-.. ... .-- .... --- .-. . .--. --- .-. - .-.-.- |

STO only won cause there was no serious competition in most of the polls |

It's early here, and I haven't had my coffee yet, but was it Massively or some other site that had RoM as winner of every darned category in 2009? (Just checked, it was Massively: http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/massively-readers-and-staff-choice-awards-results-for-2009/)
Seems to me like it's almost a viral pwning of an exploitable voting system. One game mobilises it's players, either genuinely, or inadvertently as some sort of new internet meme ("let's vote for STO, for the lulz!") ... and the results are there for all to see.
What I can't figure is why Massively, after last year, haven't done something to ensure their voting system isn't open to that kind of exploitation... |

All other responses should have won if STO was so bad in 2010. .. .... .- - . - .-. --- .-.. .-.. ... .-- .... --- .-. . .--. --- .-. - .-.-.- |

Originally posted by Sevenwind Say what you want, spin how you want but you can not deny: STO was just selling for $2.50. This would not have been the case if: 1. It was any good, and 2. Anyone but Lifers were playing, mostly. STO failed so badly, the head monkey at Cryptic came out and annouced they are getting out of the "MMO business". The yearly subs are about to expire, to there will be even fewer people left in "your game". What award do they win for that? |

Originally posted by Burntvet I don't know how many times I said it in that thread. The 2.50 sale was a limited time deal just like the STEAM games were for their MMOs. Are those games STEAM was selling dirt cheap mean the games is about to fold? Doubt it. I heard this argument about AOC for so long it's laughable and yet it's still there and still open for business. Big freakin deal STO sold for 2.50! Did you see the replies people taking up on the deal since it was so cheap and get 30 days out of it. Pretty damn good deal and some that tried it at the price might even stay past the 30 days. I did that with Tabula Rasa and even though it shut down I snagged it for 9.50 months before and I was hooked and enjoyed the heck out of it for several months. Money lost? Nope. And isn't the point to these games to have fun? Have fun no matter what the game. .. .... .- - . - .-. --- .-.. .-.. ... .-- .... --- .-. . .--. --- .-. - .-.-.- |

It's easy to win these awards in a year when your closes competition is "None of the Above." have you even heard of that game? I'd love to see the actual voting numbers, that would definately tell us how sad the voting actually was. |

Most of these awards are bought; a nice check or some swag to the reviewer jumps you froma dismal 4 to a solid 9 rating. Not that STO had a lot of competition in the MMO department this year; but if that is what's considered best, or even good, I'd have to hang up my MMO hat. Heck even WOW: Cataclysm should have beat them and that is an expansion (not counting the new catagory). |

Originally posted by Omali This game pissed off so many people - that's why. The actual product (if you haven't played it) is a steaming pile of dung. The engine sucks, the pve questing sucks, the spaceflight sucks, the pvp combat (land and space) sucks, the interface sucks, the animations sucks.... name a feature of this game and it sucks. Now - if this was just your generic Space Navy MMO... it would just be quickly forgotten with only a tiny bit of the venom you see in forums. However... STO was much anticipated and expectations for a AAA product worthy of the brand (particularly as Star Trek fans would see it) were very, very high. So there it is - reasonable or not - I think that's your explanation. |

The game is going free-2-play this year. That's how "good" it is. I got a refund after 4 days of play. |
