I thought it would be nice to take a break from the usual back and forth and start a thread on something different. Obviously if you are following this game it has something to do with the fact that you are at least familliar with Star Trek. Maybe you've been a die hard fan for a long time or maybe the new movie has started your interest. What episodes and movies are you favorites? Here's mine. Episodes: Star Trek:
The Next Generation:
Deep Space Nine
Voyager
Enterprise
Movies
MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

Quite frankly I'm very surprised to see Nemesis and Star Trek (2009) on your list. For me, reading your post is kind of like eating a huge, absolutely delicious ice cream sundae smothered in all my favourite toppings only to find that the last two bites were cat turds. Not to say your opinion is wrong or your list is invalid (it does have some of the very best of Trek on it,) I just find the last two items to be odd... My list:
The Original Series Balance of Terror Space Seed The City of the Edge of Forever The Doomsday Machine Mirror, Mirror The Trouble With Tribbles
The Next Generation Conspiracy The Measure of a Man Deja Q Yesterday's Enterprise The Best of Both Worlds The Inner Light Tapestry All Good Things...
Deep Space Nine Emissary Duet Whispers Through the Looking Glass The Way of the Warrior The Visitor Trials and Tribble-ations Far Beyond the Stars In the Pale Moonlight What you Leave Behind
Voyager The ending credits for Endgame
Enterprise In a Mirror Darkly, Part 1 In a Mirror Darkly, Part 2
Movies Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Star Trek: First Contact
I like many more, but these are probably my very favourite. I've bolded ones that really stand out for me as being the best of my favourite, otherwise they are in no particular order as I could never really decide on an order. Sometimes I really love a single scene and that scene becomes some of my favourite Star Trek made (The scene where the Romulan commander destroys his ship, Captain Picard Day, the scene where Bashir and O'Brien sing "Jerusalem.") The same goes for individual lines ("Up your shaft!" "It appears we will be required to ignite the midnight petroleum, sir." "Still think we're finished?" "More than ever!" "Picard would never have hit me..." "I'm not Picard") |

I won't mention episodes becaue i forget the names and there are two many. I'll just mention my best series which would have to be DS9, mainly because the last 3 or four seasons that they were at war with the dominion was some of the best episodes ive seen in any of the series. Movies would have to be the new one first, then #3, followed by the undiscovered country, then first contact and generations. |

Can't believe I forgot "The Trouble with Tribbles" and "Balance of Terror." /smacks forehead I know that Nemesis wasn't the most popular with the fans, but I thought it was done really well. I think the story would have been better if they had ditched the "picard clone" and made it a Romulan or Reman Praetor. They also should have left some of those deleted scenes in that were taken out because they were good character moments. But I've seemed to enjoy this movie more and more over the years and enjoy watching it more now than I do Generations, Insurrection or even the much loved Voyage Home. Star Trek 2009 is defintely a bold move in a new direction. My preference at the beginning was for them to move forward with the franchise after the events of DS9, Voyager and Nemesis. I'm sure that Abrams could have made just as good a movie with a whole new crew on the Enterprise D and created a good villian. But the new rage in hollywood these days is to reboot old franchises and that's what they did. Believe me, I went into that movie theater with extremely low expectations but I ended up pleasantly suprised with how well done it was. The movie was entertaining and I thought they did a good job with the casting. But I understand why old fans might not like it, because it DOES change the look and feel of Star Trek towards a faster "Star Wars" type pace.

For me Original series Where Spock Talks to the Rock Creature - very well written TNG Where Tasha Yar dies - such a moving story it made you feel like your part of the crew and really empathize with them DS9 Where they get stranded on the planet only to find out that it is populated by there own ancestors and they decide to allow the accident that caused the mess to happen anyway in order to preserve the population but Odo made it so they would not fail in leaving which in turn wipes out the population of the planet. - Amazing episode great forethought again really makes you feel like your there with them. Voyager The introduction of species 8472, and the second part to it where they introduce 7 of 9 - Finally a critter out there that can stomp even the Borg Enterprise The first episode of the Zindi attack on earth - Its such a humbling experiance to think that that one attack changed the universe so dramatically and the future of Starfleet and earth itself. Movies Original Series Wrath of Khan - Great story amazing writing and for the time best ship battles to date TNG This one is a toss up between First Contact and Nemissis First Contact because it is nice to see where starfleet and all of star trek comes from the origins of warp drive. Nemissis because the story again was very original and the best ship battles of todays movies Now to me the best overall movie for all of them is the latest movie, but in reality that movie is not in the same quantum reality as all the rest because it is a new time line therefor it is in all rights its own movie. Writing was great, action was good, the character introductions amazing and there interaction I think really grabbed you and made you think you were watching younger versions of the original series. |

About 'Balance of Terror' It is a generally well-made episode, and very popular with many fans, but one thing just spoils the reality of the episode for me. Can anyone guess what it is? "" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2 |

I'm talking about the 'run slient' sequence where everyone on the bridge is trying to be super-quiet and Spock accidentally triggers an alarm. Sound effects aside, there is no sound in space. There could be putting on a rock show on the bridge, and the Romulans would never hear it. "" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2 |

To be fair, you could nitpick almost any of the episodes or movies on unplausability or violation of established canon. We heard sound in space all the time when there was a battle going on.My favorite for that is from "Relics".
Granted, two of those canon violations happened because of screw ups after the episode aired. MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

On that note, the original pilot for Star Trek had no sound in space, NBC made them add sound effects in space. |

No way man, it was classic when that hippie played the bicycle wheel and when Spock jammed with the hippies. What are you, a herbert?? |
