I like older star trek mainly for the story, theres so many good moments, well devoloped characters, detailed and intresting enermies.

Theres episodes of the older stuff that is at parts boring but i just love the deep canon the universe has. older star trek has everything. alt dimensions, time travel and uniquely portrayed civilizations. while the new movie is dipping into this it is too focused on pretty light shows and bay esq explosions. the characters fell short of depth and the movie suffered because of this.

i will say one thing in its favour thou, they portayed the visual's of star trek really well, id of imagined they would of stayed away from the bright clothes in favour of arm bands or stripes on a black uniform but they didnt and all the uniforms look great. the ships interior wasnt the best in areas like the engine room and areas such as the bridge and transport deck clashed greatly with them. the bar fight at the start was also unneeded. from scene to scene it really dosnt feel like star trek, yes the races, uniform and ships a present but nothing there feels star trek, it feels like a new fanchise ripping off star trek. hopefully ST12 will return to the old star trek the type of episode that make you think.

it is full of plotholes thou which can only mean star trek

Since the movie has openede a neew time line anything is possible.  Seem to me that since this is so popular, there are ample reason for them to spin off more movies and even some new TV series.

Let all cross our fingers to hope this happens.

Yeah, Terranah your crticisms are good, but your tolerance for pain must be off the charts. If a movie has that many bad things how can you go ahead and say you want a sequel? the movie sucked. I mean in a TOS ep. with Kirk being on like a mobster planet he was driving a car, and was like hey I might get me one of these like he'd never seen one in his life...oh no we're writing a prequel he's definitely seen a car before. I can't believe they hired those same hackjob writers that did Transformers for Star Trek, you could just see the train wreck before it happened, cool special effects and badass fighting with a shit story and shit dialogue. The opposite of Trek, actually it reminds me of the ominous feeling I get from all the STO updates. I just hate to see Star Trek get superficialized in the name of making money.

Im not really a fan of Star Trek, so that might be why I though it was the worst movie Ive ever seen. I saw it with my brother, and we are pretty geeky - not geeky enough it seems. It had 1970's sounds and visual styles - and when we saw this, our jaws kinda dropped to the ground.

The cast was somewhat odd as well. Im a big fan of almost everything Simon Pegg has made, but he was some weird sideshow trying to save a disastrous movie with a bit of humor.

It was bad... very bad...

Like many here I'm a ST fan, but didn't like the new movie all that much. They did a nice job of the ship models but dropped the ball completely with the interiors. The 'bling' on the bridge was going overboard (dozens of vertically mounted spots to blind the crew ) or the ridiculous reactor coolant tube maze...

I can understand that young people want to see more effects and explosions, but does that mean the story/plot and character depth have to suffer because of this?

I'm hoping if they make a sequel, that they'll tune down the light show and focus more on the core of what makes great movies...

Abrams has signed on for 2 more sequels, with the first one expected to release in 2011.

Alternate time line, a split if you will. We are only working in the 5th dimension here.

If you want to go talking about alternate universes we are moving up to the 8th dimension.
