There has been some legal debates going on at Star Trek Games (www.startrek-games.com) about releasing a 60 page game design document of the older version of Star Trek Online. Just as the first portion of the document was to be posted, a legal rep notified the admin of the site, of the following (in brief): I made my Investigation Skill Roll. And that is why... Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness. |

Originally posted by Dracus Its good to see Cryptic going for something new then just Super hero games, I think they will do a great job with this game.
I hope they bring back Ship Interiors and the Holo-Deck and make the game a true skill based masterpiece like what was orginally stated.

Nice detective work there! Indeed interesting. I'm not sure if I'm happy Cryptic has taken over the project or not. I'll wait and see when they finally release info on the game before I cheer or vomit. Again, nice work! |

I was hoping for Blizzard. Cryptic has a good track recored, so I guess we can't complain. At least the Star Trek franchise isn't in the hands of the PWhatever any longer. I will this, if Cryptic has Daron working on this project, I'm protesting Cryptic Studios.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware "Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product." |

This is a good sign, thanks for the great detective work Dracus! On a side note, Cryptic is also pretty good at having their own website and forum for the games they develope so they won't have to post on an "official STO fan forum." nuff said. |

I'm still skeptical, but either way Cryptic isn't exactly a developer that makes depthy games. Don't expect anything for trekkies-ONLY. Look at their other games, they take simlistic approaches much like PE was doing. I wouldnt expect a game too far in a different direction, not that it matters at this point. If they start from scratch, you're looking at a good 4-5 years till release. |

I'm not sure this is good news. Isn't Crypic already developing another game ? --- |

My only complaint with Cryptic was the repeative missions in CoH. Other than that, they put out a really good game. Hopefully, they've learned a lot and can apply this knowledge to STO.

I really am wondering about this BTW. According to Jack Emmert's (heed of Cryptic) day in the life on ChampionsOnline.com article, he had meetings about three games in development and I think one that he isn't really involved with. |

Actually I think it is very possible for a company to be working on more than MMO, and even have reduce cost in resources, time and capital. But to do so, this must be done in a streamline manner as how book RPG's are done (ie: D20 system and campaigns). Utilize the same platform, same game mechanics, same code, and same guidelines. Of course apply some modifications were needed to suit the titles. Essentially take one completed game, reskin it and change the environment to fit the genre. Same system, different campaign. Change management becomes easier as one fix should fix the bugs in the other games. Granted there are trade-offs with this approach.
Will Cryptic do this? I am going to say, not likely, but using a form of the HERO System for Champions Online has the possibility for this approach to happen.

I very much imagine Cryptic will use their existing infrastructure and literally plaster everything PE did onto it, art style, story and overall concept. They might tweak it a little, but I definitely don't imagine the game is going to be much different to what PE had in mind. |

Wow. Hey, I think i see some Weapons of Mass Destruction in the distance too! Hey they were independently confirmed! I saw Hillary jumping out of the helicopter with bullets wizzing by her head! All you have are some lame rumors to hang onto any shred of hope that this game will go anywhere. COMING SOON! L O L "Government exists to protect us from each other.
