If something doesn't really grab ahold of me between now and then, I'm sure I'll be checking it out.

I wonder if they'll actually have the Klingon language in the game?  As I understand it, there are Trekkies out there who have taken the time to really learn it.

Graphics look pretty so far, and that attracts me somewhat. However, I will not risk a dime on a game where I have to listen to star trek fan bois argue over what's right and wrong in the MMORPG. I will play a free trial, yes, but I'm not buying it until I'm 100% certain that it's something I can enjoy playing for a while.

I'm really waiting for Startrek online to come out...

Currently playing eve-online, which is one hell of an annoying game, but its the only multiplayer space game available...

20:1 tedium to fun ratio for the loose in eve...

You can spend a week or more earning a good ship and equipping it, geeking out over 300 mod descriptions, and then either you or the other guy looses the ship in fights that rarely last longer than 20 seconds.  You can't fly the ships yourself, and the autopilot that flies it for you has crappy AI and is buggy on top of it.   Makes me cringe, and I have no idea how they got the best rating on this site.

I guess people like the sandbox approach, and I do like that too, but the game mechanics are just pathetic...

Startrek could be mediocre and still beat eve with ease, so I'm certainly giving it a shot...

If SOE is involved at all I will not play STO.

If SOE is not involved I will be very excited to play.

Heres to hoping for the later

Maybe, time will tell. It's a pretty dead genre, not sure why now?  they should have done it years ago.

I will. I don't know who's making the game but hopefully it's not SOE.

Perpetual Entertainment is the developer... not sure of their track record though.

My brother and I are big Star Trek fans, and this might be the game both of us can enjoy.

He liked WoW, I hated it.
I liked EQ2, he hated it.
He like FFXI, I hated it.

yadda yadda yadda.

Perpletual was setup by paramount, they are also making the mmo gods and heroes.

STO is also using more developers then any mmo has ever used, i believe they have 50 where as WoW had 24

I doubt SoE even has a chance to get into this, i mean they would have to make an offer to Paramount, and its parent company viacom. considering the size of both companies, and with Sony's recent difficulties i doubt they will have it

I am sooooo looking forward to it. Finally, an mmo with space AND ground missions. This will prove to be the game that all trekie gamers have been waiting for. The best thing is that it seems like Perpetual is doing it up the right way and not just thowing us another painted up mmo to look like star trek.
