So let's see...

This game has so far been compared to...

World of Warcraft

Guild Wars

EVE

Pirates of the Burning Sea

City of Heroes

Any I've missed?

That's quite a diverse group of games for Cryptic to be trying to copy.

If you don't want to play the game, don't bore everyone by stating as much. Just don't play and move on because nobody cares to hear a soapbox.

Apparently they want to be unique copycats?

or we just have another troll who doesn't know what he is talking about which isn't unusual in these parts.

You're Mistaken... Closed Beta started about 2 weeks ago so he could very well know... if he's in the Beta.

I had enough fun in PotBS that if this game is modeled on it...it would be a good start.

I think it just happened to turn out like PotBS.  Like the Devs have said..they wanted play to be like an episode of Star Trek.

Meaning on the ship and on the ground.  Well that was PotBS to is it hard to to compare the two.

No idea whether it's like POTBS or not, but most of the details you posted were accurate according to the information publicaly released so far:

NPC Crew.... Correct.

No Pitch/Roll....   From a functional perspective..... Correct.  You CAN move up and down on the Z axis but only within a limited arc (meaning no loops/half-loops, etc) and there is no "angle of attack" nor weapon/shield arcs on the vertical axis. So functionaly it doesn't have much effect.

Everyone is Captain of their own ship..... Correct  (Note: talking Position not Rank)

No one on your ship but you.... Correct. They said "maybe in a patch" or something like that but not at launch.

I've noticed that, too. Either people are really reaching for comparisons or this game has a metric crapton of features making it easy to find similarities with just about anything.

i have played POTBS but i don't see STO anything like it except ship floating around and ground mission. what sets the two apart is POTBS is heavy PVP while from what i can see STO is mostly PVE with PVP areas. in STO from what i hear PVP will be optional. don't want PVP then stay in your region while POTBS you sail along and red zone can appear out of the blue. yes sailing around and ground fighting they are pretty much the same"ship to ship, boarding the other ship and on land battles".

That may be true for the Starfleet side.

However, the developers have stated that the majority of content on the Klingon side will be PvP based. Both for attacking Starfleet players and battles within the Klingon empire.

Just wanted to clarify that. You guys can go back to insulting each other now.

The devs have said the space combat in STO is very muck like tall ship combat. I guess they could then make the comparison to Pirates since it is the only other mmo with tall ship combat. The space combat in STO looks really well done, and at least to me a lot more enjoyable than other space games. The only aspect I am worried about with STO is the ground missions. The game does have a lot of potential right now though, and I am loking forward to how it all comes together.

That is just my opion and we all know what THAT is good for!

Keeping an eye on it myself.  Hopefully it turns out well.  Not to sure since the IP is well known and Trekkies are very critical whether they are gaming fans or not.

Then again, I think the devs are going for a model that ( like JJ Abrams did for the movies ) does not necessarily cater to the trekkies of old but, updates the IP to appease the trekkies and potential bring in new fans.

So it will be more like an MMO than it will be a version of the TV show in game format.  Since it is not a SP RPG with online support but, an MMO in the ST world there will be a lot of critics on BOTH sides of this.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

Thats quite vague. Does this mean you can target different systems of a ship? Like just target the engines , shields or weapons?

Also is there a crew inside that can repair those systems, if they are disabled (like in the series).

I played PotBS, and yes it does look a bit like it. It remains to be seen.

As a PotBS pre-board member the "in STO from what i hear PVP will be optional" is exactly what they said for PotBS.  What they forget to share was to do your PvE missions you had to go into those PvP zones! LOL!

PotBS didn't start out as, nor is it still heavy PvP.  There are plenty of PvE missions to do.  Unfortunitly without any re-play value once you max you're kind of forced into the PvP side of things.

Atleast the way is sounds with STO there'll be plenty of PvE missions and you won't actually have to go into the PvP - 'contested space zone' if you don't want to.  In that respect I'd say STO sounds more like SWG:JTL where 'contested space' = Deep Space, an open PvP area with valuable resources for the brave, skilled or lucky.

Hadn't seen anything on the Klingon missions but if most of theirs take them into PvP situations I would think that would kind of suck since that sounds like forced Pvp.  Many might like that but not all.
