All of these screen shots are coming from the preview trailer they showed and the Game Informer mag. There hasn't really been anythign new in the images other than the background Images they posted a couple weeks ago. And than they took 3 of those and made them new images.
I am hopeful about this game since it is Cryptic as I loved City of Heroes. But I tell ya given the history of this game and the fact that it is a TV/Movie license I am very skeptical. I hope to be pleasantly surprised but I don't know... I am keeping my expectations low...
You know something that bothers me about Star Trek? I've watched most of the episodes from all the series with the exception of DS9, and I don't think I've ever once see a toilet on the show. Not in the cabins, not in the hallways, not anywhere on the ship.

I have to admit, that scares me a little...
I'm going to sound really trekky but what the hell
toilets are hidden in the walls ( check out final frontier (movie number 5)), as are the baths etc in next gen
I think the screens under the member submitted portion look better, but the do make it look like they've done the eve style backgrounds of all badly coloured nebulas
I am afraid the STO is going to go the route of Star Wars Galaxies. Namely, it will have the name of Star Trek and look like Star Trek but won't be any at all like Star Trek. Going to just have to wait and see.
I was excited for this game til I read it was going to be mostly Singleplayer, where you are forced to be the Captain and you control your Mastermind Pets as your crew. Sounds to much like the Sims for my tastes.
Oh well, here's to hoping the rumored KotOR MMO doesn't screw things up!

As far as i know it has single player ships but away missions aren't solo only and you can group fleets
and exactly how does this sound like the sims?
forced grouping of ship crews will cut this game down to 10% pop from the offset

Consider the possibility of whole guilds manning one starship. I think that could be rather cool myself.
SWG toyed around with the idea I believe for JTL. But if it was a core option in an MMO I think it could work.
As much as I like the idea of player crew, I have to admit it would be a nightmare to try to set up in game. The Devs would have to come up with enough content to make several people in each position busy plus dealing with the fact that it would have to depend on player crews getting along and following orders from player captain. Kinda mind boggling to think about.
Player-manned crew implementation, as faithful to the show:
Tactical Player sees on his screen "Shield being targeted on his screen."
Tactical Player: Captain, they are targeting our rear desk.
Captain: Ensign, shift power to rear.
Ensign Player presses a button on his screen "Shifts Power to Rear".
Ensign Player: Captain, power shifted.
Tactical Player sees on his screen "Attack absorbed, shield at 80%."
Tactical Player: Captain, shield holding at 80%.
Captain: Let's get out of here. Set a course for <insert system name here>.
Pilot Player: Aye Captain.
Pilot Player clicks on something in the map system.
Pilot Player: Course set, captain.
Captain Player: Very well. Engage.
Pilot Player presses the "Engage" button on his screen.
Does that sound like fun? In the show, all decision making are concentrated on the captain, no other member on the bridge can do much without the captain's order. It just doesn't sound fun to me at all. Does anyone really want to just repeat to the captain where shield is at, when that information can be just easily shown on his screen? I have always thought that's stupid in the show already, but that's TV. This is a game, it needs to be fun!

Did you ever see Galaxy Quest where sigourny weaver yells at the captain "I have only one job on this ship and thats to repeat what the computer says and I am going to do it"....F'in funny
Yeah I agree that does not sound fun at all....Away team missions are differrent but ship side...bleh! I'll be the neelix and just sit in the kitchen waiting with simulated doritos and red bull!

Of course it wouldnt be any fun if the captain says lets get out of here..I think player crews would be awesome if STO is more of the pvp type game.

my 2cents worth, I particulary don't like the screenies Kinda blan looking, I suggest that they enlist graphics from egosoft, those people r a can do !! if you have never seen good space graphics give them a visit.

I never played JTL enough to find out, but I heard that the YT1300 (millenium falcon type ship) could allow multiple players in it. One was piloting whilst others manned the guns. Isn't that true?
I, for one, am glad they left the one-guild = one-crew concept. To be faithful to the shows, only the heads of each section get to actually do anything, and ultimately only 7 or 8 of a 400-2000 man crew ever have a task besides ... well... I'm still not sure what those others do. They poke at touch-screens (while one guy does ALL the work), they water plants (which could be automatic), they hang out in the lounge, they walk the halls, and infrequently you find them teaching children. The only department that seems to have an actual set of duties is Security, and those guys run off in pairs every time an alien life form invades the ship.
The Defiant was the one ship that went ahead and got rid of the guys that didn't do any work, and just had a few guys on the bridge. It felt empty, though. Maybe the big crews were really just for company?
So, although I suppose they could have gone with 5-10 man crews, where each player was a section chief, or whatever (Yay! I'm not enough of a trekker to be sure of the correct titles!) making each player a captain of a ship will work for me.
My only concern will be whether or not the ships feel BIG in flight. Can't stand the Star Trek games where I feel like I'm remote-controlling a model.

Yes, that is true. In fact, that was one of my favorite things about JTL. You could even get pilot xp as a passenger.
If they did the one guild one crew thing they would also to make a way so that another player can take over the duties of another if that player goes linkdead/afk.
I was reading some of your post here and I remember this game, I had did the beta on it so I just thought by adding this link so that some of you can see teamwork and having more than 1 player in a ship for pvp. http://www.freeallegiance.org/

As long as it's not another World of Warcraft or fantasy based mmo...I'm interested in at least checking it out on release day.
So sick of the fantasy mmo clones.
