Acrobatics was what I got to mess with at E3... it's weird, but the animation seems really appropriate when you're behind the controls.

Hathi writes:

edit: I also think they made acrobatics way to powerful based on this video. If batman can leap off an high building without any means to break his fall and land on his feet, they might as well call it super jump.

@ Hathi: No one takes damage from falling in DCUO, it's not exclusive to acrobats. They didn't think it would be cool to see a super hero die from falling, I agree, Although maybe they should get a temporary stumble or stun.

Must admit I've been pleasantly surprised by all the info I've seen on the game, while nothing has actually blown me away it has certainly put me at ease about my decision to try near release.

This game is going to be a great console game. Too bad I don't play console games. I learned my lesson with FFXIV being dumbed down to fit a playable version on the PS3, never again. Congrats to those who play it on the PS3, looks good so far.

The concept is cool. I definitely like it. But I agree the striding animation looks a little off.

The climbing animation looked a bit off too, It sort of looked like they were hovering off the surface of the building as they climbed.

Ah, well that's a very minor thing considering how good the game looks so far.

I am usually the one calling BS on fanboies who use the "it's still in beta" claim when it's just months from release. However, animation tweeking is literally the last thing done in MMO development.

I don't know what you people are talking about. The striding animation looks cool, its very heroic. Its Batman running across the roof tops of Gotham.  Gainning enough speed to leap and glide to the next roof top. To be with all these videos and screenshots, I'm seeing the best superhero MMO ever being made. City of Heroes/Villain  and Champions Online both suck, they just did feel right. A good superhero MMO should remind you of when you were a kid with a bath towel or  bed sheet tied around you need and the day dreams you have while running around you house or backyard. That's what the DC Universe Online is doing for me. Especially since Batman has always been my favorite hero, ever since I first saw the TV show Superfriends back in 1982. I was 4 years old, at leat my earliet memory of watching it.

The running is kind of jumpy but still catchy in some way, definitely DC style.  I am kind of divided in the comparsion, I think the ninja run is catchy too (millenia rangers video)

I thought the running was iconic. Ok seriously I did not have an issue with it, if the games only animation problem is slightly off striding so what? To me it looked fine on the run up to a leap, maybe somewhat off if you are just running from a to b.

How the hell is nightwing gliding to the ground after leaping off a skyscraper without any visible aid.  No cape, no nothing.  Bare arms only.  I hope this game does well but I also hope it stays true to character abilities.  I think leaping from roof to roof is acceptable but leaping off a building with your arms stretched out and landing softly on the ground is ridiculous.

If he did leap from a skyscraper directly to the ground.  Taking a second look maybe he didn't.

Zipline looks really cool if it works as seen in this video by Batman. Climbing walls looks dumb, running looks fine, but gliding? I don't think however "acrobatic" you are that you can fly like that. However, I know that people want to be Batman and will want to glide, just need to add a cape animation or something for that.

Eh, I think Acrobatics looks ok and should play ok IMO... Travel powers in this game come with strategic implications as well given the aspects of world pvp in this game so that should make a difference.

For PVE, one will be as good as another.

What I would like to see are some pvp battles and how those work in this game.

Some of the acrobatics moves are clanky and don't tell you how to do them, i still have yet to figure how how to do acrobatic flip attack moves.  Also gameplay is pretty solid. What needs tending to, Voice actors, more of em, and better ones. Only critical NPC have pretty good voices, but non critical ones suck, and 1guys voice is like 40different type of NPC including a female voice.. Also they could tune down the spawn of catch phrases in combat.

Up until now i had absolutely no opinion on this game.  Nothing against it, just had no interest.  I have to say though that watching the characters in that clip run was . . . laughable.  Especially the "Wall Crawling".  Seriously, if your a fan, I am not trying to dis YOU, but the stride on those toons was SO unrealistic I just couldn't stop laughing.  I mean, how many people have you ever seen running full tilt in a "Hop Run".  I really hope they tweak that a LOT to make it look better.  Knowing that this is an SOE game though leads me to believe that they won't.  Too bad really, the game had potential.

"SO unrealistic"? What, the guy running around in a cape and tights fighting people with superpowers totally had you believing but the run was what gave it away? Wow. I wish I could judge things harshly based on one little thing which is exaggerated so as to make it iconic and VISIBLE on a player's screen.

How about this... The Bat logo on Batman's chest is WAAY too big. I'm totally not playing this game. It's the worst thing ever because that Bat Logo should be smaller.

I'm GLAD you won't be playing. Animations, yeah, they don't quite touch the wall and the run is exaggerated... But WoW shoulder armour floats above the shoulders and your weapon doesn't sit on your back. Hasn't cramped THEIR sales too much now, has it? Or do you think their 12 millions subs is being HELD BACK by something like that?
