I'm incredibly underwhelmed by this guys lack of enthusiasm about the game he's making. Someone get him a coffee.
I don't know if CoX is in serious trouble from this or Champions Online. We'll see I guess.

I think someone needs to check his pulse. I'm suspect he's even alive.

It's not his fault. His life force has been drained by working for SOE.

It is worrying that he is the lead content designer. Hopefully, that means he just designs what others come up with as far as content goes.

Well, Erling 'Liar' Elingsen was enthusiatic and confirmed everything he was asked about... and most of what he promised was not in the game.

I prefer this style then the over enthusiastic guys who promise everything and then it all falls apart when the game goes live. If you have a good product you don't need an agitator to sell it.

All interviews look like towards the end of the shows. Those conventions are exhausting. Long hours, jet lag, parties, and a ton of walking all take it's toll on you. Personally I don't need any emotions evolved with my news. I prefer the devs stay focused and do what they do, and not get emotioinally involved like some sort of unstable emo gamer.

Wow you guys are harsh... I'm no fan of SOE but give the guy a break. Perhaps he is shy and doesn't like doing interviews, has no bearing on his ability to design a game.

Normally, I think it would be a good thing for someone to be reluctant to talk, but when someone comes out with something at a fanfaire and the lead designer doesn't know...someones toes are being stepped on or someones about to get fired. Either way, still worth checking out.

well not everyone is as socially represented as others. He has an important role in the production of the game, and thats all that matters. It's not like he is the publicist promoting the game. I would worry about basing the game on the content rather than how excited a devloper is about it. (maybe he's more of a marvel fan??? I dunno)

Ok, maybe I was harsh. I did not take into consideration that he might be fried from convention work. He comes across just as I imagined a SoE Dev would. I based this on hearing from other developers, that SoE was well known in the business as being the place where non creative developers wind up.

LMAO Vevi you dont even know what a Lead Content Designer does. "Hopefully, that means he just designs what others come up with as far as content goes." LOL. By your own admission you dont have a clue what he does but you feel you know enough from a lone snippet on mmorpg.com that he isn't qualified for his job (whatever it may be according to you). And after that display of supreme logic, you expect anyone to buy your supposed "industry insider" information on SOE that you pull out of your ass? Actually no... Smed and Sony has a long history of hiring some of the most creative MMO guys in history including McQuaid and Koster. What they have problems with is polish and support. EQ was revolutionary in its day so was SWG (too revolutionary actually and ergo not fun to play) even Planetside broke new ground and had some key elements that 3rd gen MMOs like Tabula Rasa have emulated. Compare that to Mythic who rips off gameplay from EQ and WOW, and its IP from GW. Even DOAC's RvR is ripped from Meridian. What Mythic is good at is pro polish and smooth gameplay much like Blizzard. Now you may have a point this dude looking like a corporate stiff but dont go pulling crap out of your ass that have nothing to do with anything. The most popular MMOs in the world are far from "creative." The 2 most popular in history (WOW and Lineage) are probably the most derivative and in any case creativity is far from where SOE sucks hardest... they come up with good ideas about games and how to market 'em they just cant execute worth crap

ok as far as mythic ripping stuff off..... every MMO after EQ is gonna have at least one thing the same as some other MMO... there is only so much room for originality, the difference is how they do it in the game... everyone that doesnt work for one of the competing companies should be greatful that all these guys are trying to put out a quality game for you to play.
