Is there anyone here that will go for one? I would take it if it wasn't for SOE :( I don't trust them enough to keep comming up with good content etc...

Any comments?

I'd never pay a life time sub for any game any more, i especially wouldn't consider it before a game has released and is unproven.

Yea, so I was ALL gung-ho on this option.. but the more I think about it, the more I wonder about SOE.  To be completely honest, I have decided NOT to go Lifetime, yet.  I will give it my free month and maybe one more.  I want to see what the patches look like once it hits live AS WELL AS seeing if they follow through on their content.  It's NOT that I don't trust SOE (I don't particularly feel one way or the other about them) but RECENTLY a LOT of MMO's with lifetime subs get people by only offering it for a limited period of time and sucker people into it.  And then those MMO's go F2P within a year or so.  That's the WORST thing.

me neither, even games from companys that have had great games before, my big example is SE. FFXI was pretty big and is still going strong to this day, one of the best experiences  ive ever had in an MMO....but 14 was a F*cking disaster that i dont even want to touch.

from experience, i would say never pay for lifetime membership. i did it for CO and then they went f2p later on, i felt like a tool. worst mistake ever. i love to play all sorts of mmos, but i never played it more then 5 months....biggest waste ever. learn from my mistake.

My advice also is to never ever get a life-time sub to a game.  I never had, thankfully.  The last fiasco of buyers-remorse life-time subscribers came from STO last year, and I know several that are still kicking themselves over that decision.

Aside from the element that your vote as a life-time subscribers is marginalized, because some studio already has your cash, I've personally found that going with a 3-month sub option to be just about right for a lower monthly subscription rate, and allows one to depart the game if it turns out to not be for them, but while having gotten some entertainment value from it.

To be fair, if there WAS a company could feasibly buy a lifetime sub for it'd be SOE.  They have a LONG history of keeping their games around for a LONG time.  (look at EQ and their 845777 expansion or EQII (while they did go F2P the P2P is better IMO))

I have never understood this “SOE doesn’t keep releasing content” idea.  EQ2 has had a amazing amount of content released since the game came out and the world is absolutely mind boggling huge at this point.  EQ is very similar from what I have heard.  Even SWG despite what you think about the NGE has had very good expansions over the years.

It seems to me that SOE will put the resources into a game according to its sub base.  Healthy populations get the staff to do regular content updates where unhealthy games only have the people to sustain what’s there.

As for your question probably not.  I’m going to be playing DCU and expect I’ll have fun with it but I just don’t see staying with it for a long time.  It’s one of those games I will probably leave installed on my hard drive and reactivate the sub every once in a while when I get the itch for something different.

Thanks guys !

Some great info there :) Since I haven't had the chance to play the beta, I will have to wait and decide it based on how the gameplay feels.

Is there any end-game content?

I played Champions but I found the game to be very dull for some reason... The endgame was also pretty dissapointing as for pvp...I won't even go there lol.

I'm afraid that chances are that you just might come-away with the same feeling about DCUO.  Sorry.  Personally, I already uninstalled it from my computer.

End-game content was not heavily featured in the beta... they only let you level to 20 (out of a max of 30).  I forget but there was Area 51 and some Ape island added during the beta to test out some of the content.  Believe it or not, there is a LOT to do between trying to find that perfect setup of gear and whatnot.  PvP is a blast.

Endgame:

2-man instances

4-man instances

8-man instances

Hard-mode single player instances for soloers

PvP (legends and arena)

This was true of the pre-order servers. The invite servers had full access to all of the game.

That's all instanced.  Instancing is what ruined City of Heroes.  I've seen some amazing City of Heroes world content that isn't instanced.  The problem is that they didn't expand too much on it.  Random encounters makes its own content for the game.  Why do you think WoW is so popular?

WoW has random encounters?  Must have been so random I never encountered them.  Go to Wowhead, you can see the spawn locations of pretty much every boss/Rare/etc in the game.. that's not random.

WoW was no less instanced than DCUO.  Like WoW there is plenty of missions out in the cities, as well as High level iconic characters that you get Bounties/Warrants for (Think Doom Lord Kazzak but in this case, Power Girl, kilawog, Arkillo for example)

As far as something coming just out of the gates, far more content than WoW had, be it in an instance/PvP/or out in the streets.  As far as how it will compare six years down the road, to what WoW is now.. only time will tell.

I'm not even planning on buying or playing DCUO after trying beta.  THe only good thing to me was the combat.  Most of the pvp/endgame armor suits were ugly.

I also bought a lifetime for CO and I am still playing.  Even though CO is going F2P I am still glad I have it because those that do pay get a much better experience plus a monthly stipend of points.  So it is all in the eyes of each player for what they find it worth.  They even putt he lifetime sub back up for CO at a higher price than before and people are still buying it.

Honestly for DCUO I would get a lifetime sub if one was offered. Reason being though is because I know it would be worth it for me on this particular game. Having played in beta for a good while and then buying the game I know it's one I will stick with for a fair amount of time. Maybe not 5-10 years but a good year or two.

Interaction with the environment, combat and other mechanics make it one I will enjoy playing for awhile. And yes even after taking a few toons to 20 during beta I still have fun and find plenty to do. The PvP server is where I stay mainly and that makes every mission a different experience really. FFA PvP in a Superhero MMO with the option of being a hero or villain... well thats just win for me.

they do offer a lifetime sub option  for the PC version,  not for the PS3 version though, I have a feeling in the back of my neck  that the PS3  version  may someday have a reduced  monthly fee  if you are a PS+ member,  No solid proof  just a feeling  that it might happen  down the road
