Startrek and Jump Gate Evolution eat your friggin' hearts out. Yes, it does cost more time and money but you get a huge amount of player immersion in return. It might not be the most practical view but ... 'you can'.

Considering the company making the MMO, i'll wait til a more detailed review or demo is available for play before i say it's a worthy MMO.

Still the combat is twitch based so it is more like playing a FPS than a MMO.  Personally I would rather see my ship than the cockpit.

 I'm very disappointed that they're allowing you to go into 3rd person. Only having the cockpit view would be much more immersive and space-sim ish, 3rd person gives a very arcady feel, which seems more suited to Jumpgate Evolution, not Black Prophecy.

An FPS can be an MMO.  I think you mean it's more like playing and FPS than an RPG... but it's still going to be an MMO.  Either way, it's the type of game I have been waiting for.  I prefer the gameplay of action games, flight sims or shooters.  But at the same time I love the persistence and progression of an MMO.  Until someone makes a good Mech MMO, this is probably as close i am going to get to my ideal game.  Of course, this particular game is so early in development and we have so little info on it that there's no telling whether or not it will be any good.  Hopefully between this and JGE, one of them will be great a game.

On the subject of seeing your ship, both games will offer first or third person perspective.  JGE hasn't shown any cockpit views yet, and I haven't seen any first person / no cockpit screens from BP.  However, I believe both games will have all three options.  personally, I prefer to play first person without cockpit view if I am doing anything fairly challenging in game, but I love the immersion of cockpit view any time it isn't a detriment to me.  If I am doing light PvE or just tooling around space burning one, I prefer first person view, with cockpit. ;)

More like an FPS than an MMO?  I think you may be confusing terms.  MMOFPS is a subset of MMO.  MMO just means Massively Multiplayer Online, and doesn't really have anything to do with third person, first person, or combat style.

Personally, I think space flight simulation type combat would be great for MMOs.  To me, it seems like it has the potential to be more exciting than the combat that I experienced in EVE.

You're disappointed that people will be able to do something you don't personally want to do?  I have a very simple suggestion - don't use third person.  Problem solved.  Choice just broadens the prospective audience.

See, I perfer First Person View, no cockpit, for games like this, when fighting. Just flying from point A to point B I like 3rd person.

However, having played Neocron on and off for years since launch I am sure Reaktor will pull off something special, I just hope their marketing and customer service departments have their act together this time around.

It's clearly concept art - but it does give a good feel for the 3 different faction styles. I always liked the fact that you could look around your cockpit in JTL (even though I always fought in 3rd). Combined with the ship's handling, it made it convincing that you were actually in a ship. Kinda gave the whole concept a bit more weight..

These are ingame screenshots.  They already released a long gameplay video showing these things in action.  Check it out, and prepare to have your socks knocked off.  ;)

I recommend downloading the HD version after you watch the streaming one.  Seeing this in full screen HD as it would be played is really amazing.
