Atlantica Online: Ijji.com and Atlantica Partnership Interview

MMORPG.com's Joe Iuliani spoke with Ijji.com Product Manager Wook Kim and NDoors spokesperson Orion Al-Shamma-Jones about the announcement early this month that Atlantica Online had partnered with the gaming portal giant.

By Joe Iuliani on July 28, 2009

MMORPG.com:

What prompted the union between NDoors and ijji.com?

Wook Kim:

Well, ijji.com already enjoyed a good business relationship with NDoors from a previous project. Knowing Atlantica Online is a very well made game, we thought that it would be great to work together again to launch Atlantica Online on ijji.com to further expand the portal's options.

MMORPG.com:

How do you feel Atlantica Online Online will draw players from existing ijji.com games?

Wook Kim:

We are not worried about drawing users to Atlantica Online from our existing games, as we strive to provide options rather than steer member's choices. Our goal is to make ijji.com the number one free-to-play online game portal with the best games available to all users - from there it's the players' choice what they play. We have plans to launch many more games in 2009 including Huxley: the Dystopia, Alliance of Valiant Arms, KARMA: Operation Barbarossa, Soul of the Ultimate Nation, among others. We know that users from our existing games may move on to our new games, but our mission is to provide the best user experience for not one or two of our games, but for all.

MMORPG.com:

Is there a concern of the new influx of players upsetting the balance of the game?

Wook Kim:

Community is one of the cornerstones of Atlantica Online. The game rewards veteran players for helping out newcomers and working together. If anything, we expect that the influx will be a welcomed addition for all involved.

MMORPG.com:

Do you see the influx of the Gcoins effecting in game economy?

Wook Kim:

One of our primary concerns when designing Atlantica Online was to make sure it would be capable of maintaining a fair and balanced item mall. New users using Gcoins shouldn't have any negative impact on the game economy.

MMORPG.com:

Is there a concern of the conversion of Gcoins affecting possible company profits?

Wook Kim:

We do not have concerns with the G coin conversion business model affecting company profits. The way we see it, it is beneficial to both companies. NDoors will be able to gain more users to its game thus increasing sales opportunities. And as for ijji.com, we add another great game to the lineup of games further enforcing ijji.com as the hardcore gaming destination.

MMORPG.com:

Are there benefits for existing Atlantica Online players with ijji.com?

Wook Kim:

The main benefit is the boost this service will provide to the community.

MMORPG.com:

Are there any benefits to directly join Atlantica Online Online rather than join ijji.com?

Wook Kim:

No. Channeling will allow ijji.com players to do everything Ndoors users can within Atlantica Online.

MMORPG.com:

Do you think the Opening Event for ijji.com players will grant them a greater advantage than those who originally started with Atlantica Online?

Wook Kim:

I believe the event will be helpful for new players, but I wouldn't call it an advantage for ijji.com players, per se. This event is open to all new players, regardless of where they come from. While the items are very useful, everything included in the event was picked to help aid new players in advancing their characters without giving them an edge over our established players.

MMORPG.com:

How well do you think new recruits will fair against the already established Atlantica Online players?

Wook Kim:

I don't think they'll need to fair "against" the established players, to be honest. As Isaid above, Atlantica Online promotes cooperation and mentoring between players. Most PvP takes the form of friendly competition, and the disparity caused by gear and level is decreased in the game's regular tournaments. As always, it's going to be up to individual players to prove if they want to be famed in combat, regardless of whether they're veterans or beginners.

MMORPG.com:

Will existing Atlantica Online players be able to benefit from the Opening Event as well as new recruits?

Wook Kim:

This event is designed primarily with new recruits in mind. That said, we've always got plenty going on for our other players - weekend treasure hunts, item giveaways, and of course there's Unlock Your Way to Atlantica Online, which benefits everybody.
