Maybe if I'm going to have my Xfire profile up, I should start using Xfire...

But I'm paying through PayByCash and even more repulsing so, through Ultimate Game Cards so I have to decide before I have an activation key payment method set up and my trial started whether or not I want to try it out.

Any info is welcome. All I've done so far is messed around in the offline mode a bit and I have no idea how to drive any of the vehicles. I'd probably just be a footman for the first week or two I played.

Info I'd like to know:

- Population

- Friendliness of population, especially to new players

- Helpfulness of population to new players

- Real war activity going on (changes in ownership, frequency of battles, etc)

- Scale of the battles going on

- What happens when you're not in battle

- Social factor

- Overall amount of content

- Whether you think it's worth the money

- What side you're on

- If I'd be able to hit you up in-game and get a rundown that is very much appreciated if I decide to sub

Thanks in advance

Shure look me up.  Same game name  but I mostly fly.  There is a help channel and online trainers but I dont know how much they train but one Oyaija for the Allied Air is really patient and helpful.

There is a tutorial but it is really so basic I am not sure it is worth the effort unless you know absolutely nothing about games like this.

Find a battle with people.. well if you know how to look at the map and interpret it.  Probably the hardest thing in this game ot find a place to have a fight and know if the fight is going to materialize in 2 min or 20 min.  Typically you will find that you need a hour to have 2 or 3 decent sorties.  On the ground it is the same as in the air only you are not moving on the ground very far usually.

The people are friendly for the most part but many very high school clique.  If they don't know you they think you are spying on them instead of trying to help you they tell you to go away.

The best time to play is US 7 to 12 pm central time Tuesday through Sunday.  Monday is an off day for some reason.  Mid afternoon US Central  works as usually there are many Australians or Euros playing.

Real war activity... hmm good one .. this is a game.. so the real war part is moving the ground.  Since there is continually resupplied units that is not so real world but if you kill something it is 4 hours before it returns so  you can make an impact.  The best thing is for you to hook up with a squad.  There are many auto invites so you can choose one at will and try it out.  There is no penalty for quitting a squad that is not playing when you are or to your style.  When you are with a squad then you tend to have more objective orientated action and you seem to have purpose.

As far as the front line moving it is extremely fluid.  It is the only game on the net that has true unit maneuvering run by players.  That is right players move the units which are spawning rights of brigades to try to outwit players on the other side.  Having the right number of units in the right place can make up for allot of bad in game unit players.  The players move the map and it makes you think that you are helping the entire side when you take a town on the ground.

There is crap for Navy but you can shoot at another DD, fire a few torpedoes or shoot at some bombers trying to sink you.  You can do that all day and twice on Sunday for your entire life.   All these sims (WWII ONLINE, Air Warrior, Aces High, Warbirds) have some remnant navy crap but nobody yet has realized the big draw that Navy would have if implemented at the scale they have for the Air or land war in this game.  They probably could triple their player base with the variation of things to do alone.  But this dev team would rather rewrite the HUD or GUI 2 times in a year , draw up some nice grass to hide, or integrate some ragdoll physics engine in rather than make an interesting naval game.

So sure try a free trial.. find a trainer , squad or me online and give it a whirl.  It will either grab ahold of you wish for something a little better and hold you or turn you off altogether and you can not re-up your subscription after one month payment.

Oh I forgot there is ranking up for killng things which gets you access to higher rated weapons.  Wait for the new patch if you want (I know they want to release if before Christmas if they can) as that patch will drop binoculars down to recruits and that is really important for land battles as the distances that they can kill you is farther than you can see naked eye in game on the ground.  If you want to rank up you need to do mundane things to get rank like capturing buildings in a contested towns or recapturing in freindly.  Blowing up bridges... and on land driving a truck and deploying as a mobile spawn gets you 1 point for ever freindly unit that uses you to get into the fight while you sit there.  If you are bored you can just spawn out leave the truck and you can spawn in as infantry and fight but you get no more points. Also if you kill something you have to get home alive to get any points.

Ended up trying the free trial via the no payment promotion. Got in, asked for a squad, joined 23rd Armor, got a nice rundown of some tactics in a relatively safe area by a player in the squad and played for 6 hours with only 1 half hour break (not included in the 6 hours but about the time I stopped to get Xfire set up after I realized that it wasn't auto-detecting WWIIOL) the first night. Then I played on and off for another 5 hours today.

It's insane. =]
