"Inanimate objects must pay for their insolence"

12/31/08 8:05:50 AM#1

So I downloaded the game and ran through the tutorial yesterday after work. Interface seems a bit clunky but I am more into gameplay so no biggie. I roll up a British infantryman and hop into the game. I eventually get the general idea of the map and mission setup and start trying to make myself useful. First mission is to defend an Army base which we accomplish and I never saw anyone to shoot at. I then run back to the spawn point and de-spawn for a new mission (do I have to do that? or is there a quicker way?) - Next mission is to take a German-held town. I see a couple of other players and try to do what they do - run/lie down - so doing that I spot my first German. He is in a  tank... I don't have a tank... not good. But he doesn't appear to be looking my way so I take a couple of pot shots at him... (rifles are great against tanks -right?) then my screen goes black and my health bar slowly goes down to zero. Is that normal? Is there anything I can do when my health bar is going down like that? I appreciate the realism, I am just trying to make sure I am not an idiot... which I probably am.

The ammo can... the tutorial tells me to use it on other players... what do I do if/when I run out of rifle ammo or grenades? (assuming I live long enough to do either - LOL).

Spotting enemy players - I see a red infantry or tank on the map, so I assume there are German players there - right? Will German NPC's show up like that on the map also?

Assuming I do enough things right to increase in rank, will I automatically get access to new weapons or do I have to get them from somewhere?

Forgive the incredibly basic questions, the tutorial was great for getting me in control of my toon, but I am not sure what I am looking at when in the battlespace.

You can hit control 5 to ask for ammo, but you might usually need to despawn. Be aware that if you despawn not near a friendly dept fb ab etc you might lose the equipement and it takes about 7 hours to replace it. All stuff is valuable, but if you have to..you have to.

The enemy will simply be the infantry, tank, gun whatever. He has no icon over him. The map icon are reports of enemy at that position and is on your map only. I think 5 brings up the ammo can..you select it..and "fire" at someone near you. Some infantry guys dont have ammo cans..snipers..atr etc.

As you rank up you will see the new equipment..if it is exist in the spawn list you don't have to do anything to acquirte them.

If you are attacking a town or FB always try to find a mission with the little truck icon to the right of the mission. This denotes there is a mobile spawn point there ..MSP or UMP..U for unmanned..no one is in the driver seat and it can be from 1400 to 400 meters from the target. This saves a lot of running. You cannot despawn at one tho and get a RTB.

Join a squad and they will show you around. This is the most newbie friendly game online and all squads are happy to help you. Use the F6 Help channel if needed. No question is dumb..only the unasked ones.

Welcome aboard and the Black Knight Brigade BKB will be happy to recruit you and show you around and answer questions.

You can despawn for an RTB at any friendly firebase dept, army base not just the one you originated at.

FYI...for a fps increase..under Persona, Settings..Video turn off vertical syncing, runahead and udner Settings UI turn off the minimap. All of them are FPS hogs. Make sure voices is only the number your soundcard can produce in hardware. If you have too many they use CPU cycles and this hurts FPS. Onboard sound usually uses cpu cycles so drop voices as low as possible and consider getting a good sound card. Cheap sound cards...30 dollars or so...simply use cpu cycles also.

IF you run out of ammo, ask for a refill from someone or return to base [RTB]. Mortarmen units are often glad of a top up.

Spotting enemy players - I see a red infantry or tank on the map, so I assume there are German players there - right? Will German NPC's show up like that on the map also?

The marks you see on the map are player generated estimates of where they saw an enemy tank, vehicle, gun or infantry. If you see an enemy open you map, right click the place you think there were and select the type. Your "group" commander will then aprove your mark and it will be added to the map for all to see.

Assuming I do enough things right to increase in rank, will I automatically get access to new weapons or do I have to get them from somewhere?

As you rank up you will be able to choose from better or more varied infantry, plane, vehicle units. i.e Sub Machine Gunner or a better tank.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm gonna try to get on again this afternoon for a lil while and maybe for a longer session tomorrow. So when my health was going down like that? Am I supposed to do anything? Are there medics in game I can yell for? Or do I just sit and ponder the wisdom of practicing my rifle aim on a German tank?

The green bar regens over time..if you have run and are not wounded. It you are wounded, the green bar will drop and the red one will drop..red is your blood loss, the green is your energy ATP. You can bleed to death, you can be wounded and limited it your speed, or you can just be tired and resting will give you more green to go back to running. There are no medics in game. If there were, you would still be removed from the battlefield. You can continue to fight wounded.
