For this game u spawn in each time for the duration of a 'mission', if u die u lose the kills u have scored and its associated rank advancement points, but only for that particular mission.

Spawning in is done in army bases / forward bases in the game, each base will have an allotment of equipment such as riflemen, SMG's, tanks, anti-tank guns etc. If u die in a tank, that base loses that 1 tank for 1 resupply cycle of a few hours.

Take time to read the threads describing wwiiol's gameplay, its really more of a mmo-sim than a mmorpg, its a lumbering monster of a game to pick up but the rewards are well worth it. Not everyone will like it but those of us who do can tell u there's nothing else that compares.

Hope that helps.

I tried WorlWarII Online since yesterday and i have to admit that my first impression is that it's much MUCH better than Planetside!

It's simply because i am sick of simple action shooter.

Glad u liked it

The first few days, even weeks in game is usually the most trying period, if you get past that it just gets better. There's nothing like peeking nervously over your embankment while rounds are whizzing past you, explosions just feet away. And you know somewhere over there, opposing players huddle in their positions, you know that because just moments earlier you shot the ground just inches away from a 3 pixel high enemy infantry running for his dear life into the nearest cover...

And the well organized operations, even the ad-hoc ones that just snowball into an unstoppable wave consuming enemy towns in its way. Desperate defenses when even running resupply missions feel like life and death situations...

Urgh i'm supposed to be taking abreak from the game, now i feel like logging in immediately.

You dont lose your kills but you lose the points you would have gained if you had "return to base" instead of dying.

Planet side is small

WWIIONLINE is HUGE most of europe modeled in half scale every 2 steps you take is like one real life step

NOW THATS HUGE

When you die you also lose the equipment you were using. That equipment has to be resupplied either via Automatic Resupply every 3 hours or manually by players if they need to by bringing one up from a rear town.

Sometimes you might have players, or more likely commanders pm you, or ask you on open channels to not use a certain piece of equipment, or not to waste it. USually its because they are building up reserves for an attack or defense. It is possible to drain town dry on Defensive or offensive actions.

You know what, that sums up this game, that is how addictive it can be.  You are driving a tank, or sat on the back of a truck going between towns because it is needed to keep the town alive from the enemy onslaught.

I also spotted this on the official Americas Army forum.

I've found it really confusing but incredibly enjoyable.

It's my 2nd day of the free trial and I had a quick go today and got involved in an Allied combined arms attack on a german Fire Base, involving Aircraft, 20 odd Tanks and Armoured vehicles and 30 odd infantry. The level of coardination between the air force, tanks and grunts is incredible to behold.

The best thing, afterwards the tankers gave the infantry lifts back to an allied base (infantry can ride on the backs of tanks) to see columns of tanks with infantry sitting on the back with aircraft flying past overhead is a pretty mad gaming experience.
