I hope you're still watching this post, but somewhere on the forum is a realism event thingy where you can signup to participate in realism events...

I would personally never advertise my squad to train newbies then say its ok for them to leave to join another.

I would train new recruits all day long as long as they abided by my squad rules and get on teamspeak etc.

It takes a long time just to train 1 guy the ropes of the game, training a bunch of them only for them to say ta ta for another squad? NO THX.. A complete waste of my time.

I played WWIIOL for several years and participaed in organized squads that were members of the AHC (Allied High Command) OB.

I found that by the very nature of the game and the way in which player organizations functioned within the AHC/GHC structure, a new level of "role" playing was created as a by-product. This was due to the very real chain of command that allows a squad to function, especially when they are invonlved in AHC/GHC operations.

Squads have real leaders that tell other squad members what to do, and they do it. Those leaders are told what to do by their officers, who in turn receive their orders from the AHC or GHC.

Get involved with any squad that works with the AHC or GHC, and you'll experience a new level of role play.

It is not a game of... "dude, what do you wanna do?" "I don't know. what do you wanna do".

Its a game of combined arms. A game where infantry squads are told to support an armored advance as a FAC calls in CAS (Close Air Support) from other real players on the target.

BKB brings newbies in and lets them choose if they want to stay or not. A lot of people dont want to join becuase they know they may want to join another. BKB trains, we are good at it and it doesn't become upset if someone moves on.

What... they may want to join a better one?

So basically what you are saying is your squad is a bit of a stop gap for new players to get them accustomed to the game?

If so your percentages of getting a good number  of squaddies who will work and be on teamspeak together on a regular basis become small.

There has been a big influx of new guys into the game and the one's that are serious about staying want good teamwork and comms on a regular basis and being in a squad that most people see as just a training ground will leave.

I guess it all depends on what kind of squad you want I suppose.

Training squad.

Bit of a mess around lots of lonewolfing squad.

Serious with good comms working closely together squad.

n00bs that do stay with this game stay because they like the complexity and  toughness of it, You simply cannot expect to jump in this game and be a l33t dude like all those other poxy fps on the market, and the ones that do expect to be billy bang your ded leave... and good riddance to them.

So comms and working closely with squaddies are essential... if you have these simple rules in place in your squad then there are no reasons for them to leave.

btw.. BKB is or was a great squad I would never knock them but maybe there numbers are small now due to the reasons I stated.

BKB has 700+ memobers:-). Not active but still on the lists. WW2OL is just newbie friendly. No one is going to ever get grief about leaving a squad. I think I may have given the wrong idea, BKB retains most of our recruits, but if a new guy here wants to ge ttrained and maybe move on, or drop squads completely he or she is still welcome in BKB>

The vets that play WW2OL are very newbie friendly that I can agree on, (WW2OL the game) is by far not newbie friendly.

Also I would have no problem with a guy wanting to leave my squad, a lot of guys come and go for all different reasons, mainly through burnout or wanting to try the other sides equipment for a campaign etc.

If they leave for no reason and just press the .leave button I will always try and find out the reason why with a .pm to them n00b or vet alike.

doing this lets that person know that you genuinely care about their departure and they will explain their reasons for leaving.

Most squads these days specialise with certain equipment on attacks.. we have the (tanking squads) the (atg'ers with inf support squads) the flyboy squads etc.. So guys leave squads to try out different styles of play and there's no harm in that.

So learning this from guys that have left in the past we decided to mix up our style of play every so often to hopefully keep every'one happy and I can honestly say it does work.

btw hardcase... you seem like a good helpfull guy so these reply's are not aimed at you in general I know you know how the game works and in no way am I trying to pick any arguments with you or give you advice on how to do or run things.

Its just simple ideas for any squad that are finding it hard to keep retention amongst there players.
