Seriously though, what is this game doing differently than TR to avoid a similar epic fail?

It is actually doing less. The game is fully instanced, with only small "group warfare". IE this will be guild wars with guns, but with a monthly fee..

This game will feature a persistant  world enviroment that actually changes. I dont know where you get the instaced small group warfare stuff from and it wont be anything like guild wars. This game is all about Clan PVP for control of the world. This will be the best MMO of 2009.

Sorry, but you are misinformed. The game will feature a campaign over territory, but the campaign will be based on "facility  warfare", IE, instances that "small groups of people" will fight for control over.

Directly from the FAQ;

Q: How large is the game world and how is it arranged?

A: Global Agenda is all about special agents in the future fighting for control of certain key locations around the world, not tediously traveling between them. As such, the world is divided into zones that allow players to get into the action as fast as possible without a lot of down time between missions. A player could be hanging off of a glacier in Antarctica to avoid taking enemy fire in one mission, then leaping over the walls of a remote military base in the desert a few minutes later.
return to top

Q: Are there places to go besides into PvP missions?

A: Outside of missions, there are several non-combat areas in the world that handle everything from trade and transportation to social networking and crafting.

This game is going to be heavily instanced, based om small skirmish battles and without a persistant world but rather instead a virtual chatroom before you go into a "pvp mission" with your group. Just like guildwars.

So where was I wrong? I am a member of the site and have already read what you posted several times. You are reading that and making assumptions on what you think it will be like. You said the game will be like Guildwars and based on whats been stated it does not show anything like Guild Wars. Becuase there will be instancing means the game will be like Guild Wars? I said it will be a persistant word that changes and thats what the dev stated. Sorry but this game does not sound anything like Guild Wars. Reading about it and watching Videos does not remind me of Guild Wars at all and I played Guild Wars from Beta for a couple of years. Watch the Video for the part when the dev says that the game world will be a peristant world that changes.

1.Q: What is Global Agenda?

A: Global Agenda is an action-oriented massive multiplayer game (MMOG) in which players take on the role of combatants in a high-tech struggle over Earth in the near future.

2.Q: How is an MMOG different from a regular computer game?

A: The main difference is the scale and scope of an MMOG, which is much larger than a single player game, often supporting and entertaining thousands, even millions of players simultaneously. Players connect to central game servers via the Internet and interact in real time with other players across the world. While there are certainly solo activities in many MMOGs, the primary focus is on groups of players working collaboratively or competitively to overcome challenges, and the relationship between the many players online.

3.Q: How is Global Agenda different from other MMOGs?

A: Global Agenda puts a fresh spin on the MMOG genre, merging the relentlessly fast action of classic multi-player online shooters with the character growth and persistence expected by the MMOG aficionado. You'll see us stand out from the crowd through our:

Setting: Unlike most other titles on the market, Global Agenda unfolds here on Earth, not some strange alien galaxy or fantasy realm. Although the planet has undergone significant changes, there are familiar regions and locations for players to explore. Global Agenda's futuristic timeframe and emphasis on advanced technology make this a rich world to investigate and dominate.

Action: Our real-time, action-oriented combat system is as fluid and fast paced as any online multiplayer shooter, but within the context of a persistent, evolving world. In Global Agenda, strategy is essential, skill is paramount, technology is your friend - and the enemy never rests.

Player-Driven World: MMOGs are typically categorized as primarily either player vs. environment (PvE) or player vs. player (PvP). PvE games typically offer a more scripted and controlled campaign experience as players engage computer controlled obstacles. PvP games typically offer a more dynamic experience because the game conflict emerges from player initiated activity and politics. Global Agenda is very much a player-driven, PvP experience with PvE playing a supporting role.

4.Q: Why a non-fantasy setting?

A: We use the term 'Spy-Fi" to describe the flavor of action, intrigue, and future technology that characterizes our setting. We chose a future setting because it allows us to exaggerate and expand the universe of cool gadgets and devices available to player agents. At the same time, Global Agenda projects how radical technology advances might impact humanity in the future and gives context to player conflict and decisions.

5.Q: What player-created and NPC (non-player character) groups exist in Global Agenda?

A: The players truly control the world of Global Agenda, forging alliances with their peers and executing lighting strikes against their enemies. They determine which factions to aid and which to oppose, while the only thing that stands in their way is other agencies.

Groups of player agents join together by forming an agency, allowing them to organize into missions more easily, obtain and upgrade an agency headquarters, and compete with other agencies to obtain world locations and status.

6.Q: I'm excited. How can I play Global Agenda?

A: Hi-Rez Studios is currently in closed Alpha testing. A limited number of spots are available, with additional slots opening each month. An application for Alpha Testing can be found here:
http://www.globalagendaalpha.com/register

7.Q: Where can I buy Global Agenda and how is it priced?

A: Global Agenda is not yet available for sale. We anticipate that the initial game cost and monthly subscription fees will be comparable to other MMOGs on the market.

8.Q: Who created Global Agenda?

A: Global Agenda is the first project from Hi-Rez Studios, founded in 2005 to create exceptional online interactive entertainment. Our goal is to create games and virtual worlds at the highest level of quality in terms of both graphics and game-play. Our Atlanta-based studio combines a proven management team, game industry veterans and talented newcomers.

Characters

1.What types of characters are available?
2.Once an archetype is chosen, can it be changed?
3.Are there different races besides Humans?
4.Can I create an alternate character (Alt)?

1.Q: What types of characters are available?

A: There are four standard archetypes for players to choose from:

Assault - This heavy weapons specialist is clad in the thickest armor available, allowing for a sustained presence on the open battlefield while laying down a withering barrage of explosive firepower.

Robotics - By using the latest technology to gain the upper hand, the engineer is able to defend strategic points with turrets and forcefields or press forward by using remote control combat robots.

Medic - The medic strikes an effective balance between distributing regenerative effects to keep companions alive and unleashing nightmarish toxins on unfortunate enemies.

Recon - Stealth and speed are the main allies of the recon agent, who also uses subversion and misdirection to confound an enemy force while executing lightning fast ambushes against individual opponents.

2.Q: Once an archetype is chosen, can it be changed?

A: Each agent has but one archetype, but can significantly change the load-out of equipment per mission. For example, if an agent believes his opponents will be using an abundance of turrets and robotics, he or she can choose a previously arranged load out that is better equipped to deal with such obstacles.

3.Q: Are there different races besides Humans?

A: The setting of Global Agenda explores how extreme technology advances affect humanity in the future and thus humans are currently the only playable race. However, you will encounter other non-human races within the world. Robots and Mechs figure very prominently in Global Agenda and some of these can be controlled by your player agent.

4.Q: Can I create an alternate character (Alt)?

A: Players can create multiple characters within Global Agenda by cloning. Each character (clone) can be of a different archetype but all have the same family name and all are a part of the same agency.

The World

1.How large is the game world and how is it arranged?
2.Are there places to go besides into PvP missions?
3.Is there player housing?
4.Is the world continuously updated with new content?

A: Outside of missions, there are several non-combat areas in the world that handle everything from trade and transportation to social networking and crafting.

3.Q: Is there player housing?

A: Each agency has a headquarters location. When you log into the game you will generally enter the world at your agency HQ. These locations can not be raided or visited by members of other Agencies.

4.Q: Is the world continuously updated with new content?

A: Yes, the game will be updated with patches that serve to fix software bugs and also introduce new content into the world. One type of new content is updated devices. In keeping with our technology theme, players should expect the devices available within the game to regularly improve over time. Players should expect other types of content updates as well including new social spaces, mission spaces, and non-player characters (NPCs).

He's probably a alpha tester.  The game from what I hear is instanced at this current stage of development.  As for a persistent world who knows if that will be implemented by beta, or of they just go with instancing only.  I'll adopt my usual skpetical side "wait-and-see" attitude, because things could change between now and release (or not, who knows).

Yea, I know there will be zones and intancing. Some games like Age Of Conan show you how not to do zones and instancing but then you have games like Lord Of The Rings Online that show you how it should be done. We will have to just wait and see.
