Basically, an archetype is a ready-made hero with pre-defined build.   • Headed for Free to Play

    Atari and Champions Online developer, Cryptic Studios, have announced that the game will become a free to play title beginning in Q1 2011. Premium content and adventure packs will be available in the CStore for additional purchase. Current subscribers will be called 'gold members' and regular monthly subscriptions will be available to new players for $14.99 per month. Gold members will receive all content at no cost.     Cryptic Studios has announced that the Champions Online Demonflame Adventure Pack will be available later this month. This is the second adventure pack that the team has created for the game and includes new content, quests, critters and zones for players in levels 11-40.

    In celebration of its first anniversary, Champions Online is going free-to-play for a week. From September 1-7, 2010, Champions Online is unrestricted and totally free to play. Players will also be treated to a special event taking place in Millenium City.

    In a surprising post on the official Champions Online page, it has been announced that Bill Roper has left Cryptic Studios to, as he puts it, "look for new opportunities".   • Super Power Pack Now Live; New State of the Game Letter

    The hotly anticipated Super Power Pack patch for Champions Online is now live. As we reported earlier, this latest patch includes a major overhaul for both the melee and supernatural power frameworks, team missions in journal, as well as many tweaks and fixes. The new patch also includes new UNITY 2 missions, which allow players to participate in an additional set of daily missions taking place in Vibora Bay.

Anyone who's played Champions Online can tell you how big a pushover those VIPER clowns are, and so Cryptic Studios has some plans to re-vamp the VIPER enemy group in anticipation of Serpent Lantern's upcoming release in May/June.

  • Cryptic Studios Announces C-Store Tax Day Discount

    Cryptic Studios has announced a new tax day discount in order to celebrate (or mourn) the upcoming tax day on April 15. The sale will run from April 15 through April 19 and will offer a 25% discount on all C-Store items for both Champions Online and Star Trek Online.
