Massive changes to the economy are coming to Champions Online, as revealed in a new letter to the community published last night to the game's official website.
The developers have heard your calls for reduced retcon pricing, and the letter explains that the reason they haven't come through with a significant reduction just yet was due to the state of flux the economy has been in. Over the last 17 days, the developers have been hammering out their planned changes to the economy of the game and simply did not want to end up having to readjust retcon pricing to be more expensive after the fact, if it were deemed necessary.
So how's the economy changing? Well for one, they are going to near double the amount of white drops found in the game. As a result of this, they will also be flattening the sell values of items on the vendors, which will have the effect of increasing the value of the white drops on the low end, but slightly reduce the value of the higher rarity drops on the high end. This is being done so as to equalize the resource flow to players, but instead of skewing it to high end items, much of it will come from the volume of white drop vendor sales.
Those of you out there that are thinking, "That's their plan? Giving us more money by making us sell items" Bah!" Fear not! Cryptic Studios will also be boosting the resources dropped from enemies and doled out from mission rewards.
The resulting retcon pricing changes should be "much gentler" on your wallet, but the developers do still intend for a substantial retcon to be a costly endeavor fitting the theme of the game. The idea is you shouldn't have to sell your kidney on the black market to retcon back a few steps is the likely intention.
Wrapping things up, another free retcon will be issued when these economy changes go live, so be sure to experiment with screwing up your character in the meanwhile if you've burned your first one, and from what I understand these free retcon's do not stack.
The original article is available here.
well they better figure out how to make it stack since the first one didn't work right (you needed to use a slash command) and their competition CoH does give stacked retcons
The first one works fine now.
I hope they let us know if it stacks before they release another. Ah I should just get off my ass and use the first one anyway. But still would be nice to know in advance.
It seems like this will result in full backpacks and alot more trips to the vendor doesnt it?
I mean its a good idea over all but I think we will require more storage space. I also think we will need larger crafted storage items to hold all the loot Yarrr!!!!!
As far as retcons go.....
Mine worked fine but I screwed it up as I had no clue what iwas doing with Super Stats at the time, now I have a better handle on things so it will be nice to get another one.
I don't think the retcons are overpriced but have never had to go back mroe than 2 or 3 levels, and although I could afford it I suppose it did leave me a little high and dry for funds, but it's not like I COULDN'T do it at all. They were dang ahrd tog et in CoX so I expected things to be equally as difficult in CO.
Thanks for sharing Mike! Lowered retcon will be nice, though I'm still going to be a turd and say it isn't totally necissary.
I've been looking forward to this game for quite awhile and I will try it once a free trial is offered. Having said that, I have 1 question and it's not meant to be mean, just out of curiosity:
Will CO set the record for most respecs given by any MMO in the shortest period of time after launch? It seems like every time I see something posted about CO it refers to another respec. I just hope that it's not a sign of continually bad things to come.
All the free respecs are partially due to the fact that CO let's you choose any power set you want. This effectively makes it so there are no classes. As a result it's very easy to pick wrong powers and totally gimp yourself right from the beginning. Stats are also ill defined etc.
I must say I am impressed! A game goes live and almost 3 weeks later announces a major economic revamp.
Seven posts to this thread later and not one that says "DOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"?
Did I miss a meeting?
my first respec worked fine with the slash command. also they fixed it to where all you need to do is press a button.
Actually CoH respecs giving by the devs does NOT stack. That is why they give the players a week notice ahead of new Issues so players can use there respecs before new ones are giving out.
Now with that being said, there is atleast 3 other ways to get respecs in the game and those do stack.
And the reason they have given so many respecs is due to the fact they have radically changed the game. All the powers do not work as they did in CB OB or even the early start. Nearly all powers have been seriously toned down in damage and have had the energy cost to use them raised.
I have had to remake number characters due to getting into game some and levels then one or your bread and butter powers that you need to work for synergy effects with later powers has been nerfed. I do not PvP so I am not using all of the flavor of the month powers. I find it frustrating that even tho they nerf alot of powers.. ones i truly wished to play, like out of the sorcery sets are so weak that I have to play with a buddy and have him basically babysit me to not die every encounter.
I would suggest people give this game another month or so for the devs to make up their minds. Because LITERALLY every 2-4 days is yet another patch either nerfing power or such, and alot of times they nerf things such as adding timers or completely changing a power and dont even bother to mention it in the patch notes, much less change the powers description for new players.
Such things have to be cleared in beta! ... Welcome to paid beta phase.
