The one thing I would be most likely to buy, they don't offer. I just want to be able to keep playing my existing characters (from when I was a payed subscriber), without losing thier freeform powers. I'd have to convert one (and only one!), losing everything that makes that character what they are, except for thier level. Wow. WTF is the point?
Didn't even make it past character select.
*uninstalled* When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

Been there, done that. This game isn't worth subscribing to. What do you think it went F2P for, in the first place? They might've been able to get me to pay for little things here and there, but $15 a month? Not a chance...
I'd understand if half the powers needed to be purchased from the cash shop. Let past subscribers keep whatever powers they have, but lock some of the new ones they might want, as they progress. That would strongly encourage people to spend some money. Maybe even a little too much so, but I could understand it.
..but to disable freeform entirely? Just makes no sense to me. When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

I agree with Vhaln Freeform was the only thing worth paying for in CO but it looks like they will never let us buy just that. the only Reason I log on anymore is because of my SG and the RP other than that I’d radder pay an artist to draw my hero for a few bucks then pay monthly for this game and that's free and easy to get in game reverence info just go to a tailor and take screenshots and put them together in Photoshop *shrugs* |

Cryptic added a tier of play that was cheaper and in a lot of cases free to play. That tier was more restrictive than the pay tier. Cryptic traded a bunch of people who didn't want to pay for the game for a bunch of people who did want to pay for the game and a bunch of people who were happy with playing the restricted tier for free. Seems like a smart move to me. Join the League For Gamers. |

I use to be a subscriber at launch. I was, however, more inclined to like the game at that time. Anyway, I dropped my sub not because I didn't like the game but because I had other MMO's I wanted to sub to at the time. So about a month ago I decided to try the so-called F2P model. I reinstalled and patched up the game. When I launched it, I had all my characters still sitting there and one open slot to make a "pre-made" Champion. No problem. I played that pre-made guy up to about level 15 or 16. Finally I just decided I could not take the F2P BS. I wanted to play my other "free-form" characters. So I subbed. Do I regret it? Not a bit. I actually like Champions and the added content and redone zones. I just hate the F2P. I must say that there are no so-called F2P models out there that I have played that I like. They are all built upon the idea that you must spend real money in order to get full advantage from the game. That, to me, means they are not really F2P. So my matra is to avoid ANY game that says F2P. If they offer a sub....sub. Let's party like it is 1863! |

I like the F2P or B2P model, even when spending some money is pretty much required. I like that I can unlock a class or race or whatever, and its mine to keep indefinately. People act like you're asking too much, if you can spend $15-30 and keep what you get forever, but the thing is, I never sub for more than 2-3 months anymore anyhow, which equates to the same amount of money for them. The difference for me is that I can come and go over a year or two, instead of just subbing for a month, quitting, and never looking back.
In CO's case, I never even payed for my first month. I just didn't like it enough - but I'd come back to see what's changed now and then, if I'd invested money in cash shop unlocks instead. For Cryptic, that would mean more money from me, than they have any chance of getting with a subscription model.
Problem is, they're holding onto the subscription model with one hand, while offering this phony F2P with the other, like a lure. Sorry, that's just not going to work, unless you have a good enough game that appeals to enough people who will want to subscribe, and CO has already proven that it doesn't appeal that much to that many.
Even the more successful MMOs are completely failing to retain most of their players for more than a month or two. I'd bet that even SWTOR will have this problem. That can mean they'd conceivably make more from a cash shop (if they can implement it without pissing too many people off) than they would from a subscription, if they consider that poor retention. Meaning that letting people keep what they buy indefinately is win/win, instead of comparing cash shop purchases to longterm subscriptions, when that's just increasingly unrealistic these days. When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

I actually like the game. I log in every once in a while play with a pre-built class and enjoy myself. I would imagine creating a custom hero would be pretty awesome but the game is pretty cool without it. I've presonally payed for a few other class unlocks and adventure packs and have no intentions of subing just so i could make a custom character. Ultima ONline (3 Years) |

They have to give players some incentive to subscribe. If they offered everything for free, nobody would bother to pay and they wouldn't be able to keep the server up and running. They do offer a hell of a lot for free, not enough for everybody obviously but you get far more for free than some games offer you. |

This is why you will never be able to play your prevously subscribed freeform characters on the F2P deal - they will never make enough money if they effectively sell lifetime subs for the price of a month's sub, which is what the OP is expecting. |
