If or when Cryptic will introduce a gold token so you can just own a gold character without having to subscribe? I find this game too boring to play consistently so it'd be nice to have a gold character to run around with once or twice a week with.

The system won't change.  You either buy the archetypes with Cryptic points and there yours regardless of subs or you sub and get access to everything.

Simple enough really.

It's called a lifetime subscription.  It's available today for $300.

For people who only want one character, letting that character be gold permanently would effectively be a lifetime subscription.  So Cryptic can't price that far below the price of a lifetime subscription, and doesn't have much reason to offer it at all.
