So I dont post that much here mostly just come here and read up on game news but figured would put my own thoughts out on this. So I have been playing MMO's for a good 10+ yrs not sure total I dont keep track. But I will say this played CoH/CoV and was an ok game but Champs has me almost to the point of getting a Lifetime membership and it would be a first except I still want one for AoC even though not well liked. But heres what I like so far. 1.) Its got a great story quest system so far even only having 2 character slots I tried all Archtypes and could play though the starting area about 100 times more for the story. 2.) There Cash Shop isnt game breaking like everyone says theres no over powering stuff in there just fluff and exp costumes and a few quest packs. 3.) Game play is fun and it holds my attention thats hard for most mmo's minus DDO cause action mmo's keep you in the game. Not facerolling. 4.) Game has some really cool areas to play in from around the globe from city scape's to the desert and more. 5.) The fact not to many character names dont fit in the game like most other mmo's where people give there self really odd names for the character's. And most favorite thing jkust being able to have a character that looks the way I want them to now limited on it like most games. What I dont like so far. 1.) Has alot of chat and I hate to open chat across my screen to not be able to play just to see if anyones looking for a grp or any thing. 2.) Some of the enemy AI and pathing is alittle wacked but to be expected just annoying trying to fight enemys who run away from you or they path in odd ways. 3.) Dont like having to go to powerhouse to train powers and what not. Sucks having to travel so far to up your super powers just to go all the way back to where you where. 4.) Just wish it was more open world. Well cant think of anything yet that bothers me but other then this its a good game. Fun game with minor problems so I dont know why theres so much hate for it. To me it runs fine and plays really good. But we all like and dislike games thats in our nature. To me this game could be more might turn out that way later but for now I will be in Champs beating the snot out of super villans till something else better comes along. |

A closed, instanced world is one of the few things I think they did wrong with Champions. The zones themselves are cool, but they're tiny compared to other games. You can't escape the feeling that you're in a big arena. The zones are also very static. This is the case with almost all theme park games, but there's at least some variation in the zone with mountains and a sea shore or hills along with a swamp, etc. It would be awesome if the zones weren't instanced, but I think it's setup the way it is so they can add as many zones as they want and not run into performance issues. I think there was a burst of shame amongst the cognoscenti for the drubbing Cryptic got for CO when people saw how bad things CAN get when they saw FFXIV :) CO isn't that bad a game at all. It's not a deep game, and except for Lairs, teaming is almost non-existent. But it's a lot of fun for what it is. And there's no other game like it if you want to dream up odd superhero characters and realize them. I have a good feeling that CO will eventually find it's place, as people drift to it to try it out and find they enjoy the gameplay. Top tip: you can assign mouse buttons! i.e. you can have your (e.g.) 4 main attacks as mouseclicks (I have 4 to EB, L+R MB - i.e. press together - to bread and butter attack 1, Middle MB to bread and butter attack 2, keeping number keys for more situational attacks. Being able to fire off your main attack WHILE STEERING (i.e. while holding down the RMB, using the L+R option) is just superb. I wish more MMOs would do this. Quite frankly, combat in other games always seems a bit dull after CO. |

Good game. The more I think about it, the only thing that is keeping me playing DCUO over CO right now is the PvP servers. "Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga |

It has a lot of hate, because of what happened at launch. Firstly as the above poster stated, it did lack content. They also pulled a bait and switch, with a launch day patch the changed the game's dynamics from beta, and the head start. This upset a lot of people who had purchased lifetime subs, after getting a taste.
It has however improved greatly since then. Its not the same game it was at launch, and there's plenty of content. Although end game is still heavily lacking.
At the moment, its probably the best Superhero MMO, out of the three. If you want it more action paced, you can also switch to a DCUO type combat. Unlike DCUO, it actually targets correctly. Some of the menu options will be different now, but here's how its done......

Originally posted by lizardbones Agree with much of your post but this I have to say is a myth caused by the psychological effect of travel powers. It was a problem with CoX too, and is likely to be a problem for any game that gives you super fast travel powers early on. Try walking from one end of Millennium City to the other, time it. Try walking across Kalimdor or something, time it. Sure, there's a difference, but you'll see that the difference isn't big enough to justify the epithet "tiny". CO/CoX zones just feel much smaller because you are always flying through them or zipping across them (even faster than most "fast travel" options in other games). |

They were right it took me a looong time to walk across Monster Island. though i did find some quests i'd missed. "Never met a pack of humans that were any different. I think champions is a pretty good game. I too have been playing mmo's for about 10 years now and have played everything on the market. I really like the Comic based games and CoH never did it for me. All of the instances looked the same and the word just felt dead, even with all of the fake people running around. Champions was much better imo. I had also set Champions to work with a controller on my pc which made life ridiculously good and kept the game fast paced as intended. The one thing I didn't like was the lack of gear/armor upgrades and appearance. I know that you could change up your custom, but for some reason, it just didn't feel right to me. Especially after playing eq2 and wow for so long. I'm currently playing DCUO and I have to say that I really enjoy it. You start with the armor appearance you choose and can keep it the same if you wish, but you get better gear that affects stats and appearance that you can equip. For some reason, it feels right again, while still maintaining the Comic style game. My only fear is that Sony will not be able to keep the content coming fast enough; although, they did with eq2, so maybe/hopefully I'll be wrong.
I am still waiting for Everquest on the ps3 - they can use the same engine as dcuo if they'd like and I'd be good to go. |

Originally posted by grapevine I don't think so. Long way to go for CO to have that distiction! Even with a lack of content and a horrid UI/Chat, DCUO is a better deal at $15/month than CO is for free. Playing: Diablo 3, Tribes Ascend, Skyrim Disappointed by open beta feedback: GW2 Let's be honest, the only people who are bothered by DRM are pirates. Companies have a right to protect their IP. |

Originally posted by jpnole Well its good you feel the way you do about your choice in games. I myself have subbed to this game before it went F2P but didnt really have time to play it then and was pretty hard core in another game but I did play the game till lvl 20 then and had fun. So after seeing it went F2P I started back up started fresh and have been really enjoying the game for what it has to offer. I have already paid for both packs and 1 travel power. To me thats enough to hold me till I decided If a Lifetime is worth the price so far I feel it's worth it for this game. As for DCUO beta tested it had fun with it but without Sony offering a lifetime for PS3 which is where I would play it from I would rather get it for PC then if I like it I would get lifetime. But I dont want anymore games clogging up my pc. |
