I agree that this game will not fit the same mold as other f2p models, and people have made some very good reasons why this is true.  I just want to bring up the posititves that this game brings to the f2p table.

Primarily, a character can reach the level cap and do pvp and special events without ever spending a cent.  That is a big difference between this game and other titles.

I think the F2P model in other titles is a good way to get players to invest a little time in their game, under the guise that it will somehow continue to be free forever, when the "free" quests dry up, leaving you at a cross roads as to whether to jump on board and subscribe, or drift away from the mainstream players.  Atlantica online is a prime example of how someone can be lulled into a game, only to learn that you have no future in the free side of the fence.

My original character from CO was a basic archetype pick (fire), and I feel a little boned that it wasn't free from the start, because I don't EVER go to any of the expansion zones, aside from Serpent Lantern.  I have only 2 characters, and I currently don't use any C-store features...

This new model for me, would be seemless to my character.

I tried Lotro, and you don't feel it as quickly, but it is far more disappointing in the end game, just how little you can enjoy without shelling out money.  It is so bad, I don't know how a person could even level a character or fulfil the story without paying at least 75% of what the subscription plan is.

Since CO is going F2P, it may be something I can throw on my laptop to play when traveling, seems to run well on both my laptops.

SWTOR: sub ended, no thanks to Georg Zoeller!
