I watched this video interview where you can see how much the game has evolve in terms of content (they don't say anything about all the balancing to melee and pets that I know they did some time ago) and I am really impressed.
http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/champions-online-recaps-fifteen-months-of-heroic-adventures/ I always wanted to try CO but in open beta the game didn't run well on my mid-high end pc, but I tested the trial some months ago and it run better.
So I would like to ask former CO players (please no trolling or comparisons to DCUO here please), some things:
1) How is PvP content at the moment? I know there are some arenas or instanced battlegrounds pvp, but I would like to know exactly how much content is that? Many maps? Many gaming modes? Decent PvP rewards? Group PvP?
2) Population and the need to group. One thing I noticed in open beta and I have also read that on forums post-release is how there is no need for grouping. I like soloing, but I also like getting into a dungeon with friends, guild etc and doing some good PvE, can you do that in CO and it is worth it (i mean, if you can solo all the dungeons then the content is not made for grouping)?
thanks in advance! |

I played at release, so my point of view may not be as relevant as some others. 1) PvP was fun. You don't have factions, so it is more like sports than combat, but it was fun and fairly intense. 2) You do not need to group to get to max level. This is kind of built into the game though...it's solo friendly. I did group for a few things that seemed to be pretty tough, and then a few times 'just because' and we blew through a lot of content. The public quests aren't technically grouping, but they were pretty fun as well. The game is pretty casual and lends itself well to role play. They have made additions to the end game and later levels, but I never got there so you'd need someone who's been there to comment on it. Join the League For Gamers. |

Originally posted by treyu86 I am not much into pvp but I will try to answer your questions 1) As far as I know there are 4 instanced maps for pvp, one of them a little particular because if you die you return as a zombie for the other team, kind of weird for me but again I am not into pvp. As most stuff in the game the rewards are exclusive costume pieces and action figures, not sure if there is specific gear rewards. Group pvp is probably predominant but I am not sure how the roles are used these days.
2) Population is a bit low atm, since most players are testing the new F2P version of the game that includes many changes and a few new things. Leveling is solo friendly but there are many instances that require group, the best one imho is therakiel temple which is pretty interesting to run. Getting into a supergroup would definitely be better for groups, but PuG for instances is still possible. |

People somewhat team more for serpent's lantern, but that pack is a little boring imo, many regular missions and instances are more fun, though the zone is cool looking. People in my super group do team a lot, Dark Enforcers, but that's mostly social, you don't need to. PvP is really not the selling point for me for CO. It suffers from FotMitis. It becomes boring to me because every time I notice I'm getting beat a lot, its by many different clones. I do fine against your average PvPer. "Never met a pack of humans that were any different. The zombie thing is cool. You start as a hero and hold out as long as you can in a cabin. If you do get killed, you come back as a zombie, and then you're trying to kill as many heroes as you can. It's impossible to win, the zombies will eventually get you, but it's a fun battleground just the same. :-) You get points for holding out and points for being a zombie, so you don't really try to skew things one way or the other.
