well at least we know now what happened, guess marvel must have pulled the plug on their license and this with what we are left with.  I think CoV/CoH is better :P  especially with all of the new stuff slated for development.

OP: Marvel Online has nothing whatsoever to do with Champions Online."Formally known as Marvel Online" sounds like the project was renamed/remade into Champions Online, there is no basis for such a conclusion.

Champions Online is scheduled for release on the xbox 360.

Other than the fact that Champions Online is being made by the same company and will use the same game engine slated for Marvel Universe Online on the PC and Xbox 360.  Oh, and that shortly after MUO was canceled, Cryptic purchased the Champions IP and announced Champions Online for PC and the Xbox 360.

No.  There's no basis to conclude that when MUO was canceled, Cryptic switched MUO's resources and assets to Champions Online.

Cryptic focusing resources to Champions Online is obvious, but still there is no official information (well I can't find it).

The work done specifically for the Marvel Universe project (artwork, story, textures, specific engine modifications) cannot be used, thats the problem with all jobs involving programming. If they (Cryptic) simply renamed/reskinned the work done into "Champions Online", Marvel would sue them into oblivion.
(Now there could be a paragraph in the contract that lets Cryptic Studios simply re-name/re-skin the work done for Marvel Universe, but I doubt it since Marvel is hardcore about protecting their trademark & intellectual property).

Although I guess general engine optimizations etc can be used since the engine is owned by Cryptic Studios before the contract/assignment, but it is still not Marvel Universe remade into Champions Online.

  • Champions Online is being made by the same company : agreed.
  • will use same engine slated for MUO : source please ?
  • Shortly after MUO was cancelled, Cryptic purchased the Campions IP and announced CO : where is it said they hadn't bought it long before ?

And yes, I too guess CO came as sort of a replacement for MUO, but your grounds for this are mostly murky assumptions lacking real backup to me. Though I'll gladly accept any correction to my PoV.

Do you have any sources to support this. I'm just curious, would like to read it myself.

Dear god, Oversoul, do you realize who you're talking to ? It's trev9999 ! He can't possibly be wrong ! Right as we speak, reality must be adjusting to conform to his views.

No, you're a troll who doesn't know the difference between "formally" and "formerly."

yay, another pointless post wasting space in the universe. Good job with that.

Who cares what it was, what it could have been, etc.. It is what it is, get over it.
