 Hello,

Thank you for writing about this issue. Please be assured that child security and privacy are our most important concerns. Hello Kitty Online will launch with various child protection systems in place, as described below.

Sanriotown.com and Hello Kitty Online comply with the Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARUu). Caru's self-regulatory program sets high standards to assure that advertising directed to children is not deceptive, unfair or inappropriate for its intended audience. For more information on CARU, visit http://www.caru.org

Sanriotown.com (and Hello Kitty Online, once it launches) is under moderator supervision 24 hours a day. Video and Photo content needs to be approved by a moderator before it can be viewed by players, and in the rare event that unacceptable content should slip by the moderators, the players themselves can report inappropriate content with just a click of a button.

For text-based content, both in-game and on Sanriotown.com, we have word-filters in place to screen out unacceptable language.

Please do note that Hello Kitty Online is not only for kids, but is open to anyone who wants to play. During our Closed Beta, our players ranged from teens to adults and we expect players of all ages once we launch the final version of the game. We understand that a lot of young children will want to play this game and we will therefore set up different shards for the game:
those for young children which will have more restricted features (such as canned chat) than shards for older players.

Once again, thank you for voicing out your concerns to us and we look forward to your support in the future. If you have any suggestions on such matters please do not hesitate to write us.

Best regards,
Team HKO

Thanks for the info, Noggin. It's nice to know that they will have separate servers for very young players, as there will obviously be many of them once the game has been splashed all over our TV screens!

Thanks for the information!

Actually, my aunts were a little hesitant whether they would allow my younger cousins to play HKO or not. Good to hear that they are prioritizing child security.

I dunno about this, Hello Kiddy Online. This game sounds like a haven for all the nonses and groomers out there.

What exactly is it in the opening post that you 'dunno about'?

You're asking about that part!? Was I the only person who didn't know what a nonse and a groomer was before reading this?

Is that new slang, British slang, or from that TV show about pedophiles?

Well it's spelled nonce for a start and I knew that one, groomer is a new one to me and apparently is an adult luring a child using the internet.

Nonce is British slang I'm fairly sure.

Its English slang thats decades old. I haven't seen any of that show "To Catch A Predator". It can be spelt with either an S or a C

Grooming is a more recent one. I only learnt it through reading endless media hype about the latest epidemic "cyber abuse" and what a serious and growing problem it apparently is. A recent NSPCC survey that was shoved in our faces found that more than 50% of young people have suffered an "unwanted experience" - including sexual abuse and bullying - when using social networking sites. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (Ceop) Centre, the government law enforcement agency devoted to online child protection, says it receives up to 500 incident reports a month, and around half are linked to grooming. It estimates that some one in four young people arrange to meet somebody in the real world who they originally met online, compared with around one in 12 children four years ago.

Like the OP states many steps have been taken to ensure "Hello Kiddy" (as its been dubbed over here) is a safe and fun enviroment for our kids. I was curious if any deliberate software was in place to identify these creeps and eliminate them from cyberspace.

Either way I'm sure my 8 year old niece will be telling and showing me all about Hello Kitty when the time comes. While her slightly older brother mocks me for taking an interest no doubt.

Edit: I'll also wager it's community is a lot maturer than some of the ones I've encountered.

There are no Filters in Hello Kitty Online. There is no type of Child Protection in place that I found and the GM's do NOT monitor 24 hours a day.

I have a 9 year old son who played this for a day, and then I told him to go back to playing World of Warcraft, it was better then this garbage.

You're getting awfully upset about a closed beta here...it is a game still in development. If the game launches without a filter you think it would get a rating? I don't think so...and they did say that for younger players they will have a canned chat system.

That's not only disgusting but it's sick, to even joke like that makes one wonder about your mentality.
