"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand" - Randy Pausch |
From here "3) Soul Bound Items: Once a Magical item is improved to at least 85% of its total potential that item will become Soul Bound to the player that improved the item. This means it can no longer be sold or traded. However, when the player is done with the item it can be taken to an Artisan who can extract one of the powers in the item for use in another item. This destroys the rest of the item in the process." After reading this, I am a little confused. Usually crafting a powerful item can turn into a nice profit, but now when I reach a higher potential of the item (85%) I will not be able to sell it? Isn't the point of craftign a strong item for a) to make a profit or b) to use it yourself? If you could please explain this if I am misunderstanding, or into further detail if I am on the right track. Thank you. P.S. Also, you say crafting doesn't make you stand still and wait? How so? Thanks |

it can take a lot of effort and questing to craft an object up to 80-85% of it's max potential, therefore adding quite a bit of 'value' to it for selling on the market. However, by leaving a portion of the potential still available it gives the buyer the opportunity to add something they want... or to use it and still be able to sell the item later (if they choose NOT to improve it). We went with this rather than the system where once you buy a powerful item and put it on it becomes 'Soulbound' to you and therefore unusable by anyone else. In our system it is up to you whether you use it and sell it later, or use it and improve it, which makes it Soulbound. As a side note, once you improve an item above that amount, and it does become Soulbound, you can still get one power back out of it to use in another item. Crafting in Citadel of Sorcery always involves Questing rather than looms or forges. You can quest for a special item you want to imbed in your object, or you can quest to find a special place or ritual you need to improve the item during the quest. There are even some recipes you can find to add special powers, but you take the object, items and recipe to an artisan and they will create the modifications to your object. We want you out questing, not baking bread or weaving fabric, so you quest to improve your items. This all goes along with the epic story your character will follow as a Fallen Hero.

very interesting system, not sure how it will end up working but i can see people looking to make money improving it to 84% then selling, but im sure it will work fine, but could you explain how you would quest for an item you would need please? |

Originally posted by dafuzzle Simply put, you can do 'research' on things you want to obtain. The game will then send you on a quest to earn that item. |
