Anyone know if it's a stupid instanced game or nice open world?

This post is just plain stupid.  Just say open or not.  You dont need to go find a similar thread and post a link and a sentance that says USE SEARCH NEWB just to be annoying as hell.

Open world, nice and big and open,

No instances.

Everythings the same world, no load screens apparently, nice, big and all just... Well... There.

Currently the world is also pretty huge, 2hr's to cross one side to the other, in a straight line, at max sprint speed, with nothing in the way (Considering you can't perma sprint, and theres going to be things in the way... It'll be longer then that)

You are not your system specs.
You are not your uptime stats or your oversized screencap.
You are not your broadband connection.
You are not your postcount.

The MMO genre as a whole is a running joke considering a 5+ year old game is so dominant.

well that would depend on how maby subs they think they will have, and how much they can afford to put in servers. Like if they get one mil subs (NOT LIKELY since this is a niche mmo) they would have to buy the earthsimulator (a supercomputer), if they plan so many players playing it, and one hell of a backbone wan solution....

This game sounds cool. I hope they can get it right and not release a half ass unfinished game.

I'm just as skeptical as you but there's one giant thread on EA forums about it, and still no word...http://forums.play-earthrise.com/index.php?topic=1746.0

Eve did it from the beginning, and these guys seem a bit more professional than early CCP.

Well Eve is another game entirely. And instanced.

eve is not instanced, the only part that is somehow instanced are complexes and now in next expansion, wormholes ( dungeons more or less )

rest universe is open

1M subs on a single server would require a beefy solution. However, even with that many subs you'd "only" ever face a small portion of that population. It's something of a guess but I'd imagine the ability to properly handle 30% of that 1M at any given time would be more than adequate for a world wide server (minus launch which could be phased). If the backend actually supports load balancing well, adding a blade or 2 can quickly add capacity (bandwidth permitting).

Not even the complexes are instanced in the sense that every player gets his own. It is quite possible to find one and see that other players are already in there. Before you had to find complexes by scanning, it was normal that some of them were overrun with  players.

But I guess a more interesting question is "can it all be done on one server?"

Eve has one that can handle up to 50,000 simultaneous logins, but  it takes some really impressive hardware and in crowded systems you still get some lag. That is after some optimization work in the last year, before that the server had problems with lower numbers.

So I guess it is possible but difficult. It took CCP several years and a big chunk of money to get it right.
