Earthrise Media: Three Exclusive Screens

MMORPG.com has scored another three exclusive Earthrise screens from Masthead Studios. These screens once again feature a look at several in-game environments including a jungle, an arid location and some type of warp gate. Check them out!

By Guest Writer on August 24, 2010

Only a handful of areas on the island have been reclaimed from the dangerous environment – the central hub of Sal Vitas, its neighboring residential clusters and beach resort, and the industrial area left over from the founding of the first settlements. Yet the periphery of these territories is shrouded not by the deformed biosphere, but by the dark inclinations of human nature. Criminal organizations blatantly control life in these areas.

Im sorry but 3 screens for a game that is so long incoming is not the way to raise awareness or advertise...its a joke to be honest.

Slow but steady progress, just what a good mmo needs.

Once they are ready they can go ahead and advertise, it makes sense to wait until everything is finalized before getting people's assumptions up.

the thing is that i remember a time when there was a ton of info on the game being released...then it went into hiding.

Yeah there were tons of info, but they delayed the game for another half an year. Does it makes click for you? :x Maybe they want to avoid a hype and through it as always following bashing on a game? Who knows as long the game will be release ready at release and its fun playing its ok that they dont advertise a lot. If the game is good the word of mouth will do the rest.

I doubt there will be a September OBeta. And screens do lack a lot of details, seems like they just made this and made a screenshot, and why are they so blurry?

Yes, they are not getting really much any hype anymore but to say that no one will play beta is over exaggerating A LOT! Yes they had a lot of information when it first started and it was steady but as soon as they downfall on combat video. They really stopped. I think they really do not want to have a repeat of the combat video and want to release a gameplay video that is VERY well polished.

not very steady, unless you mean 3 screens a month, then we can safely say that release date is somehwere around 2013.  But jokes aside, graphics engine is already showing it's age.

Still going to check the game out if it comesout within a year, but i have a good hunch that their secretive ways about this game means that they are not telling us about real problems the company is facing.

Not slow and steady in the information released (although their forums have weekly info), and from what I understand people are beta'ing it already (the blurry chat on the screenies probably is to hide known forum names I bet)

The graphic engine? It looks alright, certainly not shiny glitter like some AAA titles with little content (I am sure you can name those heh), so that's good, but it's reasonable. I could say it's accessible, as in you don't need a top of the line 0-day system to run it sort of thing. Then again people say that pretty often about these sorts of things, so I guess that's not a very good argument.

I'm more interested in the planned systems and not the graphical look myself, as long as it doesn't look like it was made in 1995 heh. Though I enjoyed AO, and that is mighty dated, graphically, so eh.. that might be my age showing, growing up with gaming on commodore vic20's and c64's lol

What really interests me is the fact that it's sci-fi, and not in a wow-like casual please-all mmo way (yes, I am looking at you, SwTOR). So I am cautiously optimistic. Then again after so many disappointing mmo attempts in the last 5-6 years, one tries not to get all fanboyish about these things.

Agreed M4ko, graphics are starting to look dated. Especially when compared to something like Guild Wars 2.

People need to get off wow. Its not abhorable, but evaluate a game on its own merits. The game said it was going to do skill based advancement, and that is what I am looking forward to. I hope they present it well, but the shiniest graphics wont get me interested in a wow clone, which again this is not. My point is that this game has said what it wants to be, and is taking its time to get there. We hope it looks good, and we hope it is original, but mostly we hope it doesnt pander to any one person's wishes, giving up its own goals in order to make you happy for 10 seconds, while letting everyone else down for the duration of the game. These images are a progress statement, and im pretty sure its one you dont actually care about. Troll onward, south to glory, north to competence.

Not having a game at release.

i would rather have a game be slow and polished than rushed and unfinished and extreamly buggy. However the screens look nice but never really say how well the game will look or be. That all comes in the release of beta testing/retail.

as long as GW2 isn't release yet, i will always have hope for this game

i know comparing GW2 and ER isn't right, as they are completely different gameplay, but if you are to wait for 4 years for a game to be polished, it killed the intention to play the game already

ER was announced before FFXIV, and look where FFXIV is now, almost out

and yes i know, SE have all the budget and manpower, but even with the number of team they have now, it shouldn't take this long

My first thought at looking at the screens was the UI seems rather primitive.  Yeah screen views can be doctored so it is hard to say, but I hope the UI is more extensive than what is shown.

Game play is what will make this game, graphics are just eye candy.   If you judge a game on graphics you will miss some of the better games.  Show me a game that comes out with great graphics and I will show you a client that runs at a snails pace on most computers.  Lotro is the only game I know of that ran decently with a nice graphic display.
