Today, the team from Earthrise provides us with these three exclusive screenshots from their upcoming post-apocalyptic MMO. This time, th shots feature characters rather than an environment.
Not sure I fancy the way they look, but to me, when it comes to characters theres only one thing that matters, and that it how they move. If they move like they are supposed to and the animations are solid, Im good.
Hardly see anything on the second pic, same for the 3rd pic. to dark, of course could be me, but have no problems with other screenshots or ingame in what ever game with darkness.
I'm not sure what to think of these. What direction are they going with the graphics/art style? It doesn't look realistic, but not cartoony either. What would you call it?
Whoever was in charge of selecting these did a pretty piss-poor job to be honest.
That aside, this game looks like it could be a huge sleeper hit. I absolutely love the art style and direction of the game... look forward to learning more about it over time as it develops.
Wow... Are you guys serious? It is night time! It is suppose to be darker than day time. Also, they are not dark at all to me. You guys might want to check your monitors or adjust them...
Anyways, I can say one bad thing and that is the second picture. It is out of resolution, the girl seems really expanded.
However, I am still enjoying the character designs and also I wonder if the weight of your gear affects how your running animation looks like?

No..the animation with or without gear is even worst then darkfall animations..atm

Okay.. I don't think any game can have worse graphics/animations than Darkfall.
I also bet you hardly know anything about the game. Read up on it and maybe you will change you mind. Here, look at this. It has all the links to all the Questions Of The Week (QOTW). Click here
Edit: Also the video showing the animation is being redone due to the fact they are polishing it more and they have also changed the aiming mechanics. So, there is really nothing to base animations on right now. Also game is still in CB. So, it would be a bad idea to think that the animations will be as advertised. Wait, for release to make an opinion about animations.
i hate the lack of AA support in Unreal 3.0 engine.
and dont say : 'Force it' that doesnt always work/turn out stable.
This is not an Unreal 3.0 engine. Masthead developed their own gfx-engine from scrap for Earthrise.

And people should really stop and still moan about a video from a year ago, and calling it a combat video. It was'nt a combat-video! It was only made to clarify about the dynamic targetting system *gosh*
Very hugly bad photos, last video showed a horrid combat, horrid char movement, very amateur like
Another noob showing his colors. Compare the preview vids to any other MMO's alpha footage, then come back to us and tell us how stupid you feel when you see that those vids were far worse. Further, those weren't combat vids, just demos of the UI and targeting. Further still, MastHead is making significant changes to the combat system and promises to polish up the animations.
Ugh, I can't get over how cool the lighting is in that screen shot. I still want to get on the ferris wheel! I also just realized something this is the first time we have seen an unmasked female character...Moll or maybe LadyB?
This has been on the top of my list for sci-fi MMOs thus far and I'm normally awed by its screenshots, but yuck, I really thought we'd outgrown armor designs like this.

Might have a look at this wonderful shot from earlier this year:

I like the style of the game so far, quite a bit, but I'm going to agree that character animation/movement is key. If they have crappy animations then it will completely ruin gameplay for me.

Ever read European comics? Moebius, Enki Bilal, or Mézières? (See my avatar for a tiny sample of Bilal's work)
I'm seeing a huge European comics influence on this game's visual design. Not too surprising, given that the developing company is also European.
Unlike the USA, much of Europe regards comics as a legitimate art form, hence people don't call anything stylized "cartoony". So this should probably be defined as "stylized" or even "artful" :)
what does this "robot guy" carries on his shoulder? a cyber peg-leg? a flue form the future? or is it a kebap for todays BBQ?
when this is rly a weapon... then they should instant redesign all weapon models! bring in more "realism from the future", give em the "used vintage style" remove the slick and boring, disney - world of warcraft / tabula rasa feeling - it sucks.

I don't understand how everything stylized looks like WoW to people on this forum.

Yes i am in the same boat, these graphics look low detail not very impressive, but if animations are good then is ok.One other thing i expect above good animations is an in depth combat system.I think it proves by the failure of TR that just having pew pew guns and a weak combat system will not work.

I never played TR myself, but from what I hear the combat system was the best part. The only reason it failed was that NCSoft didn't give it the time to fix a few issues and add more content.

Yeah, that is very much true and a lot of Americans will not understand that. They will also not appreciate it as much as other people will. Personally I like the design. It has a really futuristic/realistic feel to it and yet keeps the animated/cartoon feel to it.
Also for the design of the gun. Who knows what kind of design is needed for laser guns. How big do they have to be to keep the gun from over heating or for the battery. Realistic speaking have you ever seen the guns of the future?
Character faces look a bit... "baby-face"...? But over all the graphics looks nice. With good animations this will be very nice indeed. If the animations sucks... lets just say we hope not... :)
I would have liked a more realistic art style myself, like Battlefield 2142, or any "near future" art style. But I can get used to this as well.
Good job.
Now dont fuck up the combat system and the animations... Please.

I'm digging the Moebius vibe I'm getting from armor design...

The pictures are very dark, not well done at all for publicity shots.

thats good news if they optimize it well.
thanks for correcting me.

Definately AA involved there and higher level of detail.
