Alpha Release Announced!
PlaneShift is a Free Open Source 3D MMORPG in Development, created by a talented and dedicated team, which has a high level of professionalism within its ranks. Our target goal is to be the biggest free MMORPG available, with a growing community of developers that can expand the virtual world into experimental directions where no commercial product can dare. The client and server code are cross-platform, designed for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
We differ from other Open Source project mainly in the organization, guidance, and task assignment, having tools to track all our progresses and a master plan to follow. Also we already achieved some good targets, having 70,000 users registered and being one of the 50 most active Open Source projects listed on Sourceforge.
The current release version of PlaneShift allows players to customize the look and the skills of their characters, visit a part of the main city, collect objects and buy weapons.
The player will start his journey in Yliakum, an enormous underground city with different races, factions, guilds, adventures, and many unexplored places waiting to be uncovered.
But the thirst for glory and knowledge has no boundaries. Beyond Yliakum, concealed by the Bronze Doors lay the Stone Labyrinths, the unknown Kadaikos, the homeland of Lemurs, and the legendary Pradesha - ruled by the enlightened Ahrijani – all which wait to be discovered by players.
