maveric007, I said I would agree with you when PlaneShift becomes more popular, and that is after putting a lot of thought into my response. Aw heck, now that it's mentioned on this thread, we might as well ask acraig if this card is even on the table. In the #ryzom.org conversation (around line 25 [21:58:13]), Talad expressed that assets could be open in the future. |

My last one hasn't been answered yet, but I intended it more for the board of directors. |

I for one appreciate what you guys are doing. I love an open source project, it is one reason I like Linux. I have questions on how active is your community in submitting bug fixes and also submitting code for your review to be implemented in game according to what you think fits? How actively are you guys working on this project? Is it coming close to a playable state that people can adventure together with friends? Do you have any large dragons lurking in a cave!
It being open sourced gives it so much potential of getting stable faster and becoming a wonderful MMORPG. I noticed you guys have been at it a while, I tried it a few years ago and felt it was really incomplete. I have programming knowledge so I knew I wouldn't be much help to the process of getting it to where it needs to be. Keep up the good work, wish I would have went into programming when I was younger, I guess I will just be a IT tech from here on out though.
Lastly, you guys are being quite rough about the retarded forums. Have you seen how rude and obnoxious kids are now in forums such as WoW and the stupid things they ask for? I like that their moderators have some backbone unlike the WoW mods. I understand why because this is free and they are volunteering out of the goodness of their hearts and honestly love the project. In WoW they have to kiss butt because the kiddies are paying or their parents are.
Some deserve to be scolded and ban for their stupid behavior. MMORPG developers put up with alot of garbage one their forums. These guys are doing this for free and rightfully so should be able shutdown any retard on their forums. |

I have a few answers. This is the bugtracker. Everyone is requested to search for their bug, and post it if not found. It is quite active from what I have seen, though some bugs do go for quite a while without being fixed. www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/ I am not sure un the code submiting. I think Tuxide would have more info on that. How active? Some of us don't sleep much. I am not sure what you mean by the 'grouping with friends' question. There is not any huge boss instances with large groups of people shouting out "AGRO NOW" and such. You can group with others to groupfight creatures, though. There is not a complex group combat system in place yet. Lastly, sorry, no large dragons. The biggest beasts you will find att he moment are scary, but not huge. |

Yes players take a strong hand in finding bugs and submitting patches for the code. |

Unfortunately, no I don't. I've never submitted code to PlaneShift. |

Tuxide I too have read the conversation on ryzom and I can answer your question. As the context of that conversation indicates PS is really not ready for such a move as opening more of its art and settings content. Such a move would only occur when the game is finished and as we see with the current pace, that may be a while.
This is largely due to the ambition of the project, a feature rich free game is hard to produce at the level of quality we hope to deliver. |

Here's a follow up question then: People have been enjoying it for a long time now, so why place so much importance on finishing the game? :) |

Good question. While we want very much to have a full featured bug free mmorpg there should be no illusions about the timeframe in which this can be done.
I have some hope that during 2008 we will see some improvements in process that will speed things up, but it'll be a good long while. |

Whats the combat like? Can you use spells and weapons and things like that? Do you have a cast bar? So far i've checked this game out and it seems to be too good to be true :P |

Too good to be true? What have you been reading? Magic is so slow and underpowered that it's only useful if you're attacking from a great distance or behind a barrier. (You can cast through walls and objects.) Even then, it takes a really long time to kill someone with magic, whereas you can kill someone with one hit of a sword. Players will use magic on the tougher NPCs, but it's generally useless against players, especially since there's nothing in the code to prevent a player from drinking a hundred health potions at the touch of a hotkey. Combat itself is sketchy. The prefered mode of combat is to start your attack from ten paces away and run through your enemy. Players have made an art of timing the attack so that they hit their opponent but are out of range when their opponent tries to retaliate. Some see it as cheating and out of character, while others see it as being smart, but pretty much everyone does it. There are some of us who stay away from combat entirely, or if there is combat we resolve it with dice rolls. But doing that is to play around the features of the game by inventing our own mechanics. |
