@Kelador: Nope, defense set for tankers, scrappers, and brutes. Not compatible with all offense sets.

Ok, I understand reusing animations to some degree but recycling sound effects is just pure lazy. That shield activation sound effect is used a lot in the Regeneration powerset. The game engine must be extremely limited that cannot create a new sound effect and tie it to the animation. Other than that pet peeve, looks good.

Great variety on the shields there. Hopefully the powersets work as good as they look :)

I dunno. Shields? Other than the late Capt. America and the (golden?) Guardian, this just smaks of "let's get midevel". I'm in this 'cuz I like the genre. Pain looks nice...for a really bad villian, or a really conflicted hero!!

i love the idea of sheilds! But this video just makes them out to be a costume peice. I want to see what they can do. I want to see a sheild charge or a sheild throw.

Actualy Shields is one of the most asked for powersets in the games history. Not realy anything to do with medival.. just the wishes of the players

The actual amount of Shields options looks pretty immense (what they revealed from the character creator.)
It's yet again millions of options to customize your characters...

The shields aren't just for medieval concepts. There are modernized shields, an energy shield, and elemental shields (ice, fire, stone, crystal). This way, the powerset can apply to many different concepts.

There will be no "Shield Throw" power. Doing so would violate the agreement NCSoft made with Marvelin respects to not violating Marvel's intellectual property. The shield is almost entirely defensive in this powerset, with the exception of a "Charge" power, and bashing.

A lot of you people should consider reading about updates instead of just watching videos. Pain isn't for heroes, shields isn't a power pool, and "throwing" a shield would not violate any IPR.

Sorbon? It wouldn't immediately violate an IP, but within about 3-4 hours of it hitting the servers there would be LOTS of copyright infringement. Plus, due to the customization of shields, it's almost impossible to create a power-set that allows shield-throwing that can still look like -your- shield without smacking around power customization.

If shields are just medievil, then why do you have the broad sword in there, I hear no complaints about that, or the katana for that matter. They were used by the Samurai warriors. I haven't heard anyone complaining about the ability to create a toon with Medievil armor either. Its a matter of taste. I for one am looking forward to it.

it's a good addon to the game, considering that the idea aint original at all. not that the game is fun, because it is. Only if there would be more players on the EU servers. On it's peak days there are like 200 max. I sure hope there will be more european players in this game because it's one of the best/most addictive MMOs out there, take my word for it :)

So because of Captain America, no one can throw a shield. Ok, so I am guessing because of Green Arrow and Hawkeye, no one can use a bow in game, right? Can't forget about how laser eyes belogn to Superman and Cyclops. Oh wait, claws, and laser eyes, and bows are in the game. Notice how Marvel only bitched when the characters looked like total rip-offs. Throwing a shield is a concept, like Spawn's living armor, which also showed up in X-O Manowar. Leave well enough alone. There is no copyright infringement until someone designs a clone of Cap.

No. Captain A. has nothing to do with not being able to throw a shield. It has to do with shields being a defensive, rather than offensive, power set. It's nothing more than game balance in action.

While throwing a shield shouldn't be an issue it depends on the settlement they made with Marvel. Almost all the powers similar to marvel heroes came out with the original game before the marvel lawsuit. The lawsuit might state no more powers can be added that would allow a person to create a replica of one of their characters. I don't know any of this as a fact, but I could see it as a reason they can't put shield throws in.
