Just an idea I had, I am a long time City of Heroes player, played since the first issue and have an idea for NCsoft to bring old school players back. I think on the test server, or just side servers for the regular servers they should have servers that are flash backs to past issues. Like have an Issue 1 server, Issue 2 and so on. The devs made nerfs and changes that caused alot of people to quit the game, like in Issue 5 when they nerfed burn, or when Enhancement Deversification was released, Jack Emmert (statesman) still says that was the worst choice he made while working on the game. I think alot of older players would join just for the chance to play the game they used to love, it wouldnt hurt anything if it didnt effect the live servers, but I would love a chance to see what the game was like at launch or to go back to when I started, I would like to see burn in its prime again or to put 6  enhancements on a power and own NPCs. I know I am not the only one who would kill for a chance to go back to those days.

It's a nice thought, but the population is kinda low.  Before I left (right after the AE issue), I thought they needed to merge the servers to have higher pops on servers.  After all, most of the fun in the game is with groups, and the group dynamics.  If you added even more servers, that would further thin the population of the other servers making it even harder to find groups at certain times.

If i'm not mistaken ED was done to keep the game from getting too easy. As for a flashback server that sounds like to much work. Besides anybody that played on it would be missing out on the real actual game going on with the updates and such on the main servers. I recently started playing on the freedom server and i have to turn down group requests left and right! The population seems fine.

Playing: Diablo 3, Tribes Ascend, Skyrim

Disappointed by open beta feedback: GW2
Waiting for: TSW

Let's be honest, the only people who are bothered by DRM are pirates. Companies have a right to protect their IP.

How about they simply not make the battles between street "trash" last like 20 minutes? A battle between a mob should be quick depending on level and not take minutes of slugging it out. Tell me another mmorpg that currently is doing this still?

I played CoH starting with Beta (After having waited two years+) and just went back to it a couple months ago. I was appalled at the slow battles. Of ALL GAMES why would a super hero take minutes upon minutes duking it out with common street thugs?

They need to get with the picture of there if they want to save this title. If there is even anyway to save it at this point.

Here is an idea.....how about every mission not be the exact same thing without anything else to do.  Defeating bad guys in an instance is fun about the first 10 times you do it.  Then it just gets monotonous.

Not sure where you're getting this.   I have played (and still do) since beta.   Most of my high level chars can take on packs of 10-20 in about one minute.     Even on a character in the low teens, the fight against the average pack of street mobs might take 2-3 minutes, unless you're fighting all +4s/+5s

Well you can change the Difficulty.

Why not make it "Flash back to this rules set" But you cant use any skills / abilitys that came after that.

Keeping any basic changes as they are now though "Mail, chat, what ever"

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Me personally have played since 2 months after launch. On and off with maybe 4 months a year now reaching 39 months in total. And consider CoH my "goto" game when there´s nothing else around.

I to have felt the population dwindling, since my main server used to be Protector, and it´s hard to group up these days. And grouping is the strong point of this game in my mind. Even though every AT is perfectly capable of levelling up solo it just feels better to have a group of heroes/villains tackle things.

I do feel they could slice the servers in half (after the new expansion hype has worn off) atleast to ensure a solid gaming experience. There will ofcourse be cries about name changes and all that but i´m sure it wont be that bad.

As far as previous issues i´m not sure, every AT had their "golden age" where they were abit overpowered and deep, deep inside we all know that nerfs happen for a reason. I actually enjoy that battle takes abit longer and you´re not steamrolling everything over but actually have to use some common sense and planning to overcome your foes.

I do feel that those people that did not enjoy this and wanted a faster more arcady feel left for Champions Online and the rest stayed. It´s just natural selection.

Hopefully Going rogue will be succesfull and we´ll see both old and new players take on their spandex and fight crime, or commit it for that matter, again.

Phrightener - I was just going to say the same thing.

Swamp Rob - Make sure your char has useful enhancements and has a build that makes sense. I can basically one shot anything white or yellow and blow through 3-4 member trash mobs very quickly.

The problem is not getting old players back , cause wont happen , sorry CoX evolved way too much , that old players infact get lost .

In the years after the updates , there are just too many things to do .

CoX evolved into a totally new kind of sandbox mmo .

And lot of popular features got stolen by other MMO´s or Companies .

Its very hard for old players returning to the game to catch up .

One of the issues that almost made me think twice to resub , is the forth coming I19 Fitness pool inherent !

But then again , i honestly cannot play the game anymore . even with the wonderfull min max combinations that would be freed up , there are too many things that irritated me too long .

Sorry there hope is to get new players involved , and fitness pool inherent is a good first step .

Second step for them is fixing the a new general system . dump TO DO and SO , make a new droppable Enhancement that scales at 10% to level 10 , 20% to level 25 , 30% to level 50  from the mobs .

Aside from cleaning up database , it will help new players get to grips with the enchancement system .

Before they even go on the invention origin enhancement .

Cause basically the fun part of CoX that differs from other MMO , is the huge customisation and power choices of players .

Sadly the battle system is totally outdated , but I19 fitness at level 2 , with stamina at level 2 will perhaps suffice for the new breed of fast clicking MMO players .

The community has taken a drop , especially after the emo pack debate .

You dont want to lose sensible people in a smaller mmo game . you can do without the idiots , but not the sensible ones ;)

Anyway wish them the best of luck ,  the have one the best communities around in MMO especially there forums are top rated .

And for people resubbing i recommend , dont get involved in Mission Architect , dont get involved too much in auction house.

Just play the game like it is , meet people do taskforce at level to 50 , but most important try to come up with your own brand of powerpicks , it doesnt have to be optimal .

But it has to be fun for you , and inherent fitness pool will help a lot with that .

If you think XP is too fast , just switch on No XP so you can still do what you want after the teaming .

And also its more then possible to build your own bases in no time , that really helps with a lot of inventory issues .

And give you something else to do aside from doing boring missions one after another ;)
