The whole idea that a sound coming out of the mouth can have magical fireballs attached to them that leap around burning people is absolute ignorance in it's most raw form. Don't ever expect anyone who is pro word censorship or even believes that words can be 'bad' to have any sort of logical or intelligent stance on the subject. Best to just chuckle at their child-like ignorance and then ignore them. "It is in your nature to do one thing correctly; Before me, you rightfully tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe." ~Francis Dolarhyde |

I totally agree. I think that people that get super offended by profanity are just as childish and immature as the people that can't form a sentence without using it. Seriously people, they're just words and they only have as much power as you give them. |

What? There is an option to turn off censorship. I swear on the games all the time and see it. City of Heroes/Villians is one of the best ever mmo's. I stopped playing it about 3 years ago to try out every other mmo that came out. They shut down Tabula Rasa givng us 3 monts credit for COH/V and I went back and now understand how it has survived so long. It was and still is ahead of its time. I love that games leveling options and just everything else you can ask for. 2 active builds to choose from at all times is like a free respec to switch back and forth from. up to 5 costumes for those who like to play dress up and the powers and graphics are just so cool. The caves, buildings, islands, weird places to visit, the storyline you can follow. Anyway, I really like the game and glad I came back. Even if I couldnt cuss, Big Fucking Deal. This is not flaming op its just an opinion.
uh oh, I just remembered. I did have a kinda nasty character name since pre beta and just recently they made me change it. I was a little pissed but got over it. Big fuckin deal I guess.

You broke the EULA and got a slap on the wrist. Pretty fair I think. At this point you should ask yourself: "Self, knowing your tourette-like penchant for explitives and sexual inuendo (which you like to call "adult talk") while playing video games, especially when fueled by beer and a back-breaking day of hard labour, is COX really the game for you?" Then maybe, after the same hard days work, hop in your car (which you have to be 16+ to drive) open a case (which you have to be 18+ to drink) and slam a few back while you cruise downtown. When the cops pull you over for breaking the law, just tell them: "Hey man, I need to be 16+ to drive this car and 18+ to drink this beer, what gives! Obviously these age restrictions superceede any laws or agreements I may have signed. Plus, what I do in the confines of my own car is my own business - also superceeding any laws I agreed to. So F off!" Give it a try, see if they buy into that logic. |

Or you one of those people that believe by playing Counter Strike players then want to go out and kill their next door neighbour? I suppose by your random behaviour links you are. Anyway here is a favourite quote of mine And i heard "Son do you know why i'm stoppin you for?" Unless your going to tell me that swearing in my car is against the law? Whoops said I wouldn't argue anymore but I came here to see if anyone started a thread about the new architect system, I guess not off back to other game forums, toodles! |

The ANALOGY (look this word up if you don't know what it means) was highlighting the fact that you broke rules that you signed an agreement to abide by , got a warning, and then cried about it and tried to blame the people whose rules you agreed to. If you don't like the rules, don't play. Pretty simple stuff. |

You have that right, lots of 10-12 year olds play "M" rated games these days, like Grand Theft Auto 4 or Call of Duty 4/5, anything that has sex, blood and language is guaranteed to have pre-teens playing them. |

I got a warning in WAR and I wasn't bypassing the filter in anyway, so ya other games do it to. The unfortunate part of MMOs is when there is a massive amount of people, there is bound to be a decent amount of idiots who will report for everything they can and feel special about it afterwards. The only game I played that I liked the rules was DAoC Free PvP server where the CoC if you don't like someone's language then do something about it.
There are just too many sensitive and stupid people in this world, and many of them make their way into MMOs. Best just to get a good group together that you all know and then stick to group chat. People wonder why they don't get help in general chats in a lot of different games, it is because everyone got tired of all the pissing and moaning and went to private chats.
There will always be people that fear language, people who think people lived with (and rode) dinosaurs, people who want to be given everything in a game instead of earning it. It's best just to remember they're all idiots. |

I think the issue here is that he offended someone in his team. That someone then reported him. The GM then game him a slap-on-the-wrist. If it had just been your friends on the team, there wouldn't have been a problem. The GM's don't set around just monitoring chat channels. You offended someone with your "adult-themed talk" . That is the issue. If you and your SG decide to leave the game because of this, then maybe you were not mature enough for this game.
P.S. My husband works for "big-business". At least here in the US, it is frowned upon to use certain language. And if someone was offended in the workplace by your "adult-themed" conversation, you had best get a lawyer. Many people scream, "sexual harassment" at the mere mention of anal anything. |

Myself, a few "adult" words in a game are not going to bother me. If someone is using too many - well there is usually an ignore feature in the chats. I ignore them and gold spammers and now a new annoyance I have seen creeping up. To me it is just as bad as too many adult words - and that is people spamming the local forums about God and prayer. I believe in God, if i want to pray I will go to a Church not log into a Game. Also most of these people were Christians, if a Muslim, Allah forbid, tried the same ploy there would be massive outcry. Also it is extremely annoying to have the local channels of the LFG channels spammed by people using them as a private conversation channel with their friends. Point being - There is something to annoy every one in the chats in MMO's, a true adult would understand that their behavior probably annoys someone also. Ignore it, use the ignore feature if one is available, or write down the character names and do not group with them anymore. Striving to deprive some one of gaming privileges because they annoyed you is just plain arrogant. It would be nice to play with all mature people who do not need to swear, or preach or talk to their friends but this IS the really Real World and that is just not going to happen. As far as trashing a game because they had the temerity to "warn" you about your language - I can only say Grow up. This is just my opinion, which at last check I am still allowed to have, peace.

I love how so many people think its stupid to expect the OP to follow the rules. It doesn't matter why the person was reported, he was reported for breaking a rule. Rules are not meant to be broken, they are meant to be to be followed and if they are not followed people will be punished. |

Havent looked at this thread for ages. What I will say now, sure I probably went a bit emo however I have realised the game isnt for me its a great family game for light family gamers with kids. Therefore the game isn't for me so I have happily moved onto The Age of Conan, still a young game I enjoy the community the free flow of conversation in all channels and perhaps since I am not on the pvp server a more friendly community than I have experienced in most other mmorpgs. I have found a populated guild which I never found in CoX, I'm sorry if yours is but most SGsVGs I have been in contained at the most 4-5 people on a night, the conan guild Im in sports around 40 a night. Even my family enjoy it when I pull off a fatality. I am far more relaxed. So sorry if I came across as an emo teenager thats not me, I got pretty cross but realised that exsisting in CoX was not for me personally though I wish those who are happy in it every success. My main message in this post is this: If the shoe doesn't fit, you have the wrong shoe.

These terms of use are in almost every single game. WoW included. If you would remember there was an issue concerning a LGBT guild on WoW. Read there the EULA on almost any MMO and they are pretty similar. For the most part you won't get hassled, but if you are excessive people will report you. Personally I could care less about what someone says in game, but there are those of us who don't want to hear it or read it. Even Blizzard says you can't rely on the filters. Especially in terms of all things sexual. There tends to be a lot of use of words that can slip through the system and annoy others. I don't understand it... its just a couple of words, if anything blame the human race.
But, you can't say "don't touch this game" off the basis of something like this. This goes for almost every single game. I have heard of people numerous times getting warned or temp banned from WoW because of random chatter in General that does not work with the EULA. Like I said, Blizzard and most MMOs say you can't rely on the language filter and can still be subject to it. The only reason you don't hear about it more often in WoW or other games is the fact they have a huge playerbase and things like this just slip through the cracks. Look it up if you don't believe me.
You just got busted and now you are upset. |

Originally posted by Colonial Actually AoC has the same rules as other games and many players were shocked at being banned over their explicit conduct in a game with naked prostitutes and foul language dialog by NPCs. Go figure. However allowing a random invite into your private team without warning them about your use of foul language was your mistake. You don't know how old that player was or who was watching their screen. Even if it was a young person who didn't care what you said, their parent could walk by and see what you wrote and they could have filed the appeal. Your are right to assert that private chat among consenting players should be perfectly fine, however you added a non-consenting player to the mix and the CoC clearly states that it doesn't matter which chat channel you use when saying anything offensive, it's still a violation. Next time you need to screen the random adds to your group. |

Well...I don't know how this game's GM's work but I used to be a GM on 'another' game and if we received a complaint we *had* to look into it and justify whatever action we took - or didn't take. If the EULA was deliberately broken, that implies some action has to be taken. I think you'll find that a warning was the very least they were allowed to do. Simply ignoring a complaint when it was backed up by evidence would probably not have been an option available to the GM concerned. |

@OP
I appreciate you making this post to let us know you are going to troll this game and that we can safely ignore anything you say about it. Cheers Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man! |

Can't see the problem myself to be honest. Every time you log in, you confirm that you've read the EULA and agree to abide by it, you then completely ignored it and are mad at being caught out. At least they just issued a reminder to not do it again, they could have just banned your account outright. |
