does that mean the two forums can merge now??? (under one name - "City Of Heroes & Villains")

I bought the Good vs Evil Edition, so this update doesn't affect me much. But the merger is probably because of the rumored retail expansion coming up after issue 15...

well, hope so!

I'm thinking NCSoft just came to the realisation that the CoH people who were willing to pay for CoV have already done so - new players are more-or-less forced to buy the Good vs Evil edition (unless there's still a solo version lurking around in a dark alleyway somewhere). So, since the cash cow is running out of milk, might as well go ahead and integrate it all. Helps keep CoH people on the line.

AFTER issue 15?  good lord, that'll be Christmas 2009, or later.

Could be summer 2009, though Christmas would be a good guess.

The most likely reason to do this, as I said back with the "gift" at the NCSoft acquisition, is that it's easier on them from a recordkeeping standpoint. They needed to keep track separately of who is allowed in where, and have checkpoints in the software to prevent the wrong people going to the wrong place. Plus they had to maintain purchasable products to allow people to get the second half that didn't have it already. And the price of that second half had to be low enough to be attractive to anyone who hadn't upgraded yet but might someday.

Now it's just "allowed to play" / "not allowed to play." And they can use this as an incentive to lure players back. It's just a win for them.

Also consider that the expansion will likely divide the playerbase into "have" / "have not" again. Were CoV and CoH still separate, you'd then have four different combinations to track. It just gets more troublesome for them.
