Title says it all really, is pvp of regular occurance in this game or is there not much of it around these days. Some elaboration would be good if possible.

Spelling and grammar do matter.

I find your lack of real-life skills disturbing.

No.  It used to be reasonably easy to find pickup groups in Bloody Bay or Siren's Call, but not anymore.

PvP in CoX is situational at best, it only occurs in specific PvP zones, each of which is level capped which also caps available powers based on which level they were acquired.   Also, while in PvP zones, character abilities are modified versus normal PvE zones.

As far as population of those zones, sparse to low compared to the overall population and dependent on server population.

CoX PvP is unlike other games since many of the AT types and build specs within those ATs will be unsuccessful in 1v1 or even team combat.  This is especially true because if your specific build is easily(swiftly) defeatable, regardless of how many others are on your team you will become an early casualty.

One of the greatest flaws in CoX PvP is the lack of power effectiveness versus opponent defense.  Specifically, you will find that PvP opponents are more resistant to certain attacks as well as debuffs, and further, the developers have specifically capped/timeout'd many AOE/Debuff powers to make them less successful.  Further, certain builds are capable of quick un-escapable killing streaks, while other builds are capable of resisting attacks from multiple opponents much longer than the norm.

I would not recommend CoX for those desiring PvP as a main gaming component, because the build specs for success are narrow paths which discount the ability to truly build a unique PvP warrior.

PvP used to rock and was always packed in Siren's Call, but post issue-12 it had slowed down and Recluse's Victory has more people than any other zones now mostly for the pillbox farming. The changes makes it very discouaging to pvp now with the travel/heal suppression and insane damage- defense based builds are no good anymore.

I played on Infinity and Victory server, and maybe its because these are two of the least populated servers but I have seen absolutely NO ONE in the pvp zones, which was very disappointing because I remember having a blast in Recluse's Victory a couple years back when there were still people there.

I just wish PvP followed the same general rules and proportions as PvE.  That's the way it used to be, and that's why I used to love to PvP.  Today, there's a completely different set of laws characters are governed under in PvP as opposed to the regular zones, which means I really don't know how to PvP.

I know Cryptic tried to make PvP more simple, so that more people would be inclined to try it.  However, the PvP they refined actually made the game needlessly complicated, because characters function completely differently in PvP zones than they do in the rest of the game.

Ya, dumb idea.  It was overly simple before...  They just went a bad route.  This game never had an easy time with developing PVP, and I doubt it will get better.

PVP has been bunked since I12, all you'll find are rooftop duels in BB or RV, otherwise it's dead except a couple random masterminds or blasters in SC. The pvp part of hte game is in bad shape.

Momento Mori

Indeed, I'd say most of us PvPers hit the cancel button when they completely reinvented that part of the game for Issue 13.  The changes wrecked attacks, slows, holds, heals, buffs, all mez protection (disabled) and all travel powers.  Teleport became unavailable completely if someone targetted you for PvP.  So if that was your travel power, you were turned into a rock.  When you launched an immoblize, it would actually suppress your own movement.  These massive changes also borked all of the crafted enhancement sets we had all been working on since the introduction of the auction house.  Months worth of finding rare recipes, completing task forces, purchasing rare salvage and building enhancement sets was flushed down the toilet overnight.

Ventrilo chat with NCsoft, closed beta feedback, open beta feedback, and 300 pages (not posts, pages) of negative feedback, and they still went ahead with this poorly conceived and unwanted total revamp.  I guess Castle and his boss thought they knew best.  From the few friends who still play, and those that have also recently quit, it seems that this worked out as the players expected.

What is it with devs who think they must be right in their thinking, and most if not all of their players must be wrong?  We've seen some nice MMOs get totally screwed by that kind of thinking imo.  You'd think some devs would learn from others' mistakes.

Castle always sucked when it came to pvp. I'm so glad I left earlier on in Issue 7 or whatever. Even back then, you could see pvp was going downhill due to extreme neglect. I was so happy when I made it to EVE cause I always wanted to play a game where the devs really loved pvp.

Cryptic / NCSoft california just wants pvpers money. At least you guys can use a different build for pvp now I read. But a lot of good that does ya since all the serious pvpers left the sinking ship haha

Every few months I check back the forums in the hope that the devs reverted most of the I13 changes and I always have to leave disappointed :(

It boggles me that devs often can't admit that they made a mistake and then act on it. At this point it should be crystal clear that almost noone wants to do the separate pvp game that castle designed. You'd think the devs would be able to learn from their's and other's mistakes, but it looks like admitting a mistake is still a bridge too far for them.

It also reminds me of some of the worst: A bunny permadom, a tray full of breakfrees and several escape methods. A player with a build like that could come into Warburg/RV and make all pvp by players without a fotm build impossible.

CoX also had some of the worst "leet" characters (not the person in the video) in pvp that I've ever seen (but I have never played WoW or CS, so maybe I had high standards), whose only skill existed out of a fotm build and breakfrees. And then ofcourse the endless 13year old leetspeak drivel that they would pour out... In general there used to be more good than bad apples though, which made pvp a great experience most of the time, even if my build wasn't optimized for it :)
