In a recent public developer diary, City of Heroes Senior Animator and VFX Artist, Christopher Bruce announces that the art team’s newest acquisition, Cheryl Austin, has been hard at work updating a number of aspects surrounding the game’s renowned character creation system.
“For Issue 15, there are two new costume sets available to everyone, created by the newest addition to our character artist team, Cheryl Austin. “Vines” is a new pattern while “Ulterior” is a new texture set, both of which work with most of the existing costume pieces,” Bruce said in the diary. “Cheryl has also created over twenty new face textures, something we haven’t done since City of Villains launched.”
The twenty new faces, ten male and ten female, can be viewed below:
The end of the diary hints at more new systems that will impact the game's character creation system to come with the upcoming Going Rogue expansion as well as some new animations that have been added around costume changes.
Looks nice, but with Champions Online to be released this year CoX has alot against it since CO will be dwarfing the charcter creation of CoX.
How come there are 10 new female faces but they have screen shots of 11? Is one of the 11 an old face?
Uh, they have 13 faces, not 11.. But that still begs that question as to why.
13 is obviously the new 11.
Oh how wrong you are.
Think CO is going to a massive disapointment judging from the beta, its going to be another TR =[
I was playing the trial a few weeks ago and they accedintly gave everyone the new customizations and special items :D, i was sad because i made a really cool looking toon and the took it away :(
COH is a cool game but at this point the graphics are looking really dated. Graphics aren't EVERYTHING, but they are something.
Game was fun in the trial, only reason i didnt sub was because of CO
The gameplay of Champions Online is radically different from the gameplay of City of Heroes/Villains. If you enjoyed CoX, it's entirely possible you'll hate Champions. While Champions will have/has more options with costume and power customization, that won't necessarily translate to a shared enjoyment of game systems. Champions Online has a lot going for it, but it's an action game targeting the console gamer; if you're a PC gamer who likes the more "turn-based" MMO style of CoX (those gamers do exist, albeit not in great numbers on this site), Champions Online is going to be a painful adjustment to make.
Also, it's worth noting that I'm not an active CoX subscriber (though I did play it for awhile), and I am someone that's looking forward to Champions Online. I just think it's important to understand that the only things the two games have in common are a superhero theme, avatar customization, and the name "Cryptic Studios." Anyone playing City of Heroes that's hoping Champions Online is going to be City of Heroes 2 is going to be in for a brutal disappointment. Champions Online has more in common with a Tony Hawk game than it does City of Heroes.
Oh how wrong you are.

Which stage beta was this? As someone who's played almost 3 years of CoH, I hate to admit it, but Champions is looking to beat the pants off of City of in just about every game aspect right now.
Can't say much due to NDA, but really, the transition to a more arcade style gameplay I think so far has done a very good job, the game plays more like Marvel Ultimate Alliance than your traditional "point-click, rinse repeat, go get coffee, come back, watch xp bar".
I've been playing COH since beta. and still have an active sub today.
However the turn based/click to attack routine is getting old.
Lost count of the amount of times I've gotten a great idea for a character - realised it easily due to the great costume designer. Had issues with the limited power choices , but got around it. Only to delete the character a few days later because the combat is basically boring.
Watching CO devolopment closely combat sounds really good. and costume customization is on par/better so I'm looking forward to it
I expect the graphics will get an update when the expansion comes out.

whoops!
when I was posting, I couldn't remember if there were 11 or 13 and was too lazy to go back and check.
Respectfully: dream on - graphics updates are not easily done, specially in a MMOG, and if these new faces aren't anywhere better than we already had...
Not for nothing but, CoX has gotten frequent graphics updates. Granted, people are talking about a graphics overhaul, but whatever. I really don't believe the game needs that sort of thing. Gamers today need to stop focusing on graphics so much. City of needs to add things like Dual Pistols before they can think of worrying about better graphics.
