Jumpgate Evolution Videos: AGDC '09: Developer Walkthrough (10:06)

Our Garrett Fuller spent some time with NetDevil President Scott Brown at this year's Austin Game Developer's Conference. In this video, we're treated to a developer walkthrough of Jumpgate: Evolution where we learn about some of the philosophy behind the game's design, the new player experience, and get a neat look at a high-end boss encounter.

Jpizzle writes: jesus! Garriot! Shut up and let the devs talk! Every interview! keep your GD mouth shut after you ask the question! Wed Sep 23 2009 7:32PM
Jpizzle writes: right right, uh huh, yea, right, cool cool, right right, yea, hmm mmm, right, ya, cool cool cool, righ, uh huh, cool, right right, yea, hmm mmm, right yea, uh huh, cool. Who gave this guy a mic? Shit. I can't even finish watching this. I wish the dev would smack you in the mouth and tell you STFU. Wed Sep 23 2009 7:37PM
SaintViktor writes: It is asteroids in 3d on steroids I think. The flying doesn't look very good. Wed Sep 23 2009 7:39PM
feena750 writes: That looks pretty cool. The only thing I didn't care for was that he used the same double laser on everything. That seems like it would get boring pretty quick. I assume you get more weapons and ship parts later so that battle is more strategic. Wed Sep 23 2009 8:27PM
phaydee writes: Great Video!! Can't wait to play!!!! Wed Sep 23 2009 10:14PM
Mojito347 writes: This game looks amazing. I play eve now, but i am really anticipating this game. I also like the fact that they are not rushing it out, its a sign of good business. I do agree with one of the comments above me, if all we have to do is smath the same mouse button, than it will become extremely boring. We need missiles, torpedoes, laser, turrets, etc. Thu Sep 24 2009 12:18AM
kakarotrage writes: The game looks nice but zones look too much arena-like, this is what will prevent this game from being great. Thu Sep 24 2009 12:55AM
CayneJobb writes: Yeah I have to agree with Jpizzle. If MMORPG is going to continue having Garrett Fuller do interviews, he really needs to learn to be quiet while the other person is speaking. Thu Sep 24 2009 1:04AM
danilavs writes: The game looks bad, unreal in science in sci-fi world. there are too much simplifications ... Thu Sep 24 2009 2:35AM
Varnsta writes: Haha I have to jump on the Garrett bashin wagon for a sec too. 'Yeah tell the fans that the game's polished, go on tell them, go on, i'll let you finish on that note...right? right? uhuh? go on...tell them..no wait..its my mic...mine...' I like the look of this game. Summin new to the MMO table which lets face it, needs a kick in the arse. Make my ship bank a bit tho while i'm turning. Can ya plz? Ta :D Thu Sep 24 2009 6:21AM
nickelpat writes: Garret.... You're INTERVIEWING the Dev, I hate to say it, but we don't care what you think, we want to know what Mr. Brown has to say :P Thu Sep 24 2009 7:05AM
Sabbicat writes: Come on, he wanted to replicate the chatter of an epic space battle. It is sometimes hard to hear what you really need to hear with all the chatter. Thanks Garrett for making it seem real world :/ Thu Sep 24 2009 7:45AM
Dana writes: While we are all the first to admit that none of us have a future career in TV, you guys do remember E3 when I did the interviews right? Garrett's a massive step forward! :P Thu Sep 24 2009 11:32AM
Ponico writes: looks very promising, I like their attitude and I greatly respects their move on holding it back. Thu Sep 24 2009 12:19PM
Mortemia writes: I really didn't see the problem with Garrett here, it was a relaxed chat/interview situation. Wtf you guys expect from him? Ask a question, then be silent for 5min and wait for Mr. Brown to spew shit continuously? I think it was a great interview and the game looks promising. Missing the cockpit view is a shame though. Thu Sep 24 2009 12:22PM
shadow417 writes: It gets bether, so it seems. will try it out. Thu Sep 24 2009 12:31PM
Vorcirion writes: Game looks quite nice alright. But yeah it really would be better for Garrett just to shut up after asking a question. It seemed like he was the one doing the marketing for NetDevil...trying to get a better job from them or something? Thu Sep 24 2009 12:32PM
stormpuma21 writes: The reason Garret almost seems to be talking over the developer is because most normal people dont interview well. Asking a simple question and then having them answer will, most of the time, lead to them answering in a way that didnt answer your question at all. You'll recieve alot of "none" answers. You have to steadily guide them into your question until you know for a fact that theyactually understand what you just asked them. Something as simple as "tell us the progress of your game" could lead to them asking you, "do you mean when its going to release". You really dont want them to ask you any questions at all in your interview you're conducting. Also peopel will tend to answer your questions to matter of factly such as giving a simple "yes it is 'or' yes we do" answers. The uh huh's encourages them to keep talking and elaborate more. So cut him some slack please. Sorry for such a long post. Thu Sep 24 2009 1:37PM

Praetoriani writes: I think Garrett did the interview just fine. Sure, I don't see him being a talkshow host any time soon, but he did just fine here, and will get better as he gets more experience (and levels up) and constructive criticism. It wasn't the best interview I've ever seen, but I certainly did enjoy it. Thu Sep 24 2009 4:02PM
shabazzster writes: Thank you so much Garrett for this much needed update which looks freak-en outstanding by the way. Keep up the good work. Fri Sep 25 2009 12:38AM
PuppaSmirk writes: Too many elves not enough WWII dogfighting in space! I for one welcome our new JG:E overlords. As for Garrett's interview style, its actually good technique to have longer questions to allow the interviewee time to prepar an answer... so you start with the basic question then spend a little time filling it out to allow them thinking 'music' so to speak. Yes, Garrett could have done it better but I don't feel like he was overriding the conversation. I got what I wanted from the video... good job! Fri Sep 25 2009 9:18AM

Yamota writes: Is this an MMO? From the interview it sure did not sound like one. All they talked about was single player stuff, weird. Fri Sep 25 2009 4:12PM

selbie writes: MMORPG, please get rid of the overlay on the edges of the video. You don't need to explain what the questions are. We do have ears you know. And yeah, lay off the verbal diarrhea too. Other than that, thanks for the interesting video. Wed Sep 30 2009 12:30AM
Gijoejaba writes: This is not an 'auto-aiming' game. It's twitch-based...Where you point is where you shoot. There also is no 'cone of fire', or whatever that gives you an area of random shots...No dice-roll on combat. No weapon that does '23-45 damage'. If your weapon says it does 25 damage per shot, then that's what it will do everytime, no matter what level you've achieved. The game is looking great, and I will definitely play it. And I will enjoy it. Oh yeah, there will be cockpits and First Person views, and I hope they don't implement walking avatars...at leats not before release. It's a space combat simulator after all, not a space station walking simulator. Thu Oct 01 2009 12:58AM
