MMORPG.com Jumpgate Evolution Correspondent Sean Bamberger recently scoured the North American and European Jumpgate Evolution forums to bring us this report on the most interesting answers given by NetDevil's Hermann Peterscheck.
OP by GamingGeek:
How will the naming format be for players? Will we have 1 name, a given and a surname or a callsign? And will they be exclusive per server or can more than one "Maverick" exist?
Hermann Peterscheck:
Currently the player has a single name callsign as opposed to two names. This can be pretty much anything as long as it's within naming conventions. These are per shard so if you are called Maverick and manage to get in early enough you can be Maverick on each shard.
This game has become a joke.
Was supposed to be released 2 years ago. And since than all updates we ever get are those interviews (that are all same as first one 3 years ago , with absolutely no new info) , and here and there screen shot showing same 2 ships over some space background.
Where are gameplay videos, interface shots ... Anything substantial on ship types, weapons, crafting ...
It really seems like the game did not progress pass some basic combat demo....
Will this every be released ? That is really good question
I kind of have to agree with the above post. Although, I'm still awaiting this game, and will be until it's cancelled or relesed.
After following it for awhile I've just started considering it vaporware. If it comes out great, but I wont be holding my breath.
Who knows a couple more years and we may be able to give it a test drive.Maybe.
From the Q&A: "What I hope happens is that people are mature enough to not deliberately game systems in order to ruin the experience for others."
That's about as naive as you could get. Anyone making a multiplayer game has to assume that there will be players exploiting the game mechanics, either for their own personal gain or to spoil others. "Hoping for mature behavior" is just setting yourself up for failure.
I was going to post this exact thing. Doesn't make me have a lot of confidence in the developers when it seems like they have no idea how a lot of players actually act.
If somehow a person on the same faction can block fire from my ship I guarantee there will be people that deliberately get inbetween me and my target, just because it's possible. May not happen very often, but it's naive to think JGE will somehow have a more mature community than every other game in existence.
Who knows... maybe it's too hard to position your ship correctly to do this. That would make sense, but that's not what he said.
I'll go ahead and say the same thing again. I was interested in JGE (having never played JGC), but this makes me very cautious of the whole idea. How can a developer, or even anyone that has played any MMO, or even any competitive only game, think for even a moment that there will not be players who "deliberately game systems in order to ruin the experience for others." That is what jerks do. And online games are positively swarming with them.
Hell, even I've done it. A few times, I have encountered a jerk or someone that otherwise annoyed or upset me. Sometimes these people were on my team or faction or otherwise immune to me killing them myself. In these instanced, I have been known to "deliberately game systems" in order to ruin the experience of that person. I am sure most of us have done that at one point or another, for whatever reason. Maybe we should make a poll.
