Not to mention NetDevil's servers look to be borked atm (not the JGE ones, NetDevil's ones). You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up. |

In regards to the PvE experience of JGE, Scorch recently showcased in a MMORPG.com interview (6:50 in) a new mechanic they got in place for missions (AKA Quests), that make it much more of a flowing experience rather then just taking one quest, going back taking another etc.
What was shown, was that whilst doing a mission the story will actually unfold whilst you are out in space rather then having to return to NPC to take new objectives. So to give you example of what this might mean for the game experience for the player (Unfortunately the MMORPG.com interviewer didn't take the oppurtunity to ask what it will mean for the experience, and just agreed with what they saw):
You may get a mission to go scan a anomaly it a backwater sector in the middle of nowhere, and after you have scanned the anomaly and completed that objective, the story then continues with you being contacted out in space being told the findings of the scans and then being given another set of objectives (So basically another mission) in relation to what you just did, so perhaps after scanning the anomaly the findings detected recent use by pirates to sneak in construction materials. So you then have to scout the sector to find haulers belonging to that pirate faction, and destroy afew to find out what they are carrying, and once you have enough samples to complete that objective your agent contacts you to inform you that another patrol has stumbled on something that may be connected to the materials, and you are then tasked with flying to a potential outpost when upon reaching that area you find a fully operational pirate station and are tasked with destroying that station. --- So it's certainly doesn't seem like the average RPG/EVE case where you just take a mission with some random plot text, but instead missions are often rather extensive story arcs outlining the political/conflict situation of your nation or outlining events taking place in that region of space, but the important point is that it isn't doing quests for the sake of completing them for experience (Although I am sure some people will just see them as such if they want), but rather missions are about the story unfolding as you are out there. You don't think there's anything amiss? I'm sat here wearing a red and white gingham dress, and army boots, you think that's un-amiss? |

Becouse his long extensive experience with mmo's gives him the ability to foresee something, such as how fun a pve mission will be in a game.

I'm going to pour some gasoline onto this thread. Noticed JE thread on SA forums. One post catched my attention: " I think everyone is trying to figure out how to make money and keep things going rather than pouring effort and resources into JGE. JGE doesn't have a "soul" so to speak, and the creative process to figure out what the game's unifying theme is doesn't take the heavy lifters and the front facing media team. The core development team that has been working on the jumpgate games are still working on the project, but it is in such a state that the secondary teams are all on other projects doing other things as of right now. JGE may still see the light of day, and if it does the project time line has probably been redrawn to hit a launch date around the holiday season of 2010. It is best for everyone who stands to make money on JGE to let the press, media and communities do their own thing until they are actually on a release push" If a game has all the features of WoW, its nothing but a WoW clone, but if it lacks any of them, its incomplete. |

Yeah, damned if they do and damned if they don't. They bitch moan a MMO didn't cook long enough, then they bitch and moan cause it's taking too long. What's the matter, gettign tired of the same old porn? If a MMO takes several years to make, so what? Are you dying soon? And if you are, I would be doing more with my remaining time than waiting to play a game. :P |

I think, if I ever do an MMO, I will avoid the word gate in the name - Jumpgate, Stargate, Hellgate - the word in a name is cursed.
I would love to play JE, I would love them to get it done and get it done right. But beyond delays the massive timeframes that pass with no comments and missed announced deadlines indicates more than taking time to get it right. I hope they get it squared away, but it doesn't look good to date. -------------------------------- |
