oops, I died again.

8 pages?? 8 pages to talk about how you don't like the people that didn't like your ideas???

I'm convinced half of the "supporting" posts are other accounts of yours, since you have nothing better to do than make trolling posts all day, yes, I read your posts in your profile, they're all negative!!!

Yep, I joined the JGE forum 3 days ago, and reading through the posts I can honestly say you couldn't be further from the truth if you had your own space shuttle!!!

ahhh, loving life

Big John (aka Trapper on JGE)

P.S. < you see that Join date? and this is the first time I've been stirred to call BS!

MMO doesn''t mean only Groups/Guilds/PvP gaming.
It’s many people playing *different* game styles.

Are the devs/mods banning those wanting PvE content? Because if they aren't....cracks knuckles....I'll be more than glad to lend a 5 knuckle sandwiche to PvP types. :D

I don't like to fight, really don't but can hold my own. If the devs are thinking about having more than a newbie safety zone for PvEers but meeting resistence, I can help out (not a flame match I can't handle...lol).

Going to check the forum.......

You post topic like "JGE should have avatars" , and emidiately get response "I will kill on sight any player that has stupid avatar". Every word you post meets comments like "Stupid post of the month" , "You fail" , "Learn English" ... and not by single poster , but by group - probably in game guild or something.

Developers should listen to suggestion on their forums. But what can you do when forum is taken over by a virtual bullies ?

lol sounds just like Mmorpg.com

I don't browse the new or old JG sites very much, but I think it would be going way overboard to call the old JG community horrible. I think it's just a tight knit group of individuals who don't want to see a game they have spent many years on saturated with ideas that might conflict with their perspective of the way the classic game functioned.

In response to class JG being a failure, I don't believe that for a minute. 3DO threw them out the door right after release if I remember correctly and they may have had some marketing problems afterwards, but that's about it. For a twitch based niche game that caters to a sci-fi genre to last all these years is an amazing success in my book.

I would absolutely expect some hostility in a forum if a new face showed up and began chatting about how great it would be to add in X, Y, and Z. Classic JG is unlike many of the newer generation MMO's and I am sure many of the vets are uneasy to adapt to. I think the old community wants to see the success of the new release as much as the newcomers. They were the ones who kept JG alive as long as it has.

Just remember, If not for that old community that the OP is angry about there would not be a JG. Or a JG forum, or a new JG to be excited about.

Give them a little credit and some respect. Then wait until the game is released and shoot down each and every one of them that slighted you on the forum. It's the Jumgate way. Just watch out for Liet. He's a nasty one. =P

This is certainly my idea of a horrible community.

A close knit bunch who have known each other for years and already weeded out all dissent. Homogonised buy years of flaming and noobing.

No room for free thinkers or new idea's. Full of their own self importance.

Here is something you need to remember. If JGE only sells to you, and all those who played the old version, JGE will never exist.

If you want more, you will have to attract new players. You will have to cater to what they enjoy, and if you don't want to, and if you want it all the same, no one will lend the dev's enough money to make this game.

Time for you lot to say goodbye to "classic JG". "Classic JG was a flop. Are you the ones that kept JG going, or are you the ones that prevented it's success?

You can either embrace change or get left behind like the dodo's. No one cares. JGE will be different from JG and the old guard purists will all be disappointed. Just as they are in every game. This game will either embrace the mass market, or it won't see the light of day, and what the players of the old game want is of no more importance to what some one else who might buy the new title wants. It's not about who bought the last one, it is about who is going to buy the next one.

No one owes you any respect, because you played some old game no one likes or has heard of. If you want respect, you will have to earn it. If you want to be respected, the fastest way for you to get this is to start respecting others.

Wow. Ok...

I didn't suggest that JGE should cater exclusively to it's veteran players nor that it should stay exactly the same as classic. As you are so keen to point out, that would be folly and would amount to nothing more than JG with a graphics update with no growth from a business perspective. I agree.

JG was not a flop. I disagree. As I stated before, 3DO dropped the publishing of the game a few months after release and netdevil had to take the reigns as publisher with themis for support. The marketing of the product after this point was dismal (in my opinion) as afterwards I did not see any boxes on shelves at stores and very little information about the game in magazines or on the internet other than its home site. If anyone would like to come in to refute this, I would welcome it as I only have my personal shopping and readership experiences to place claim.

I also consider the classic games theme, genre, and concepts as a detractor from mass appeal. Was this by design? Yes and no. It's failure to gain nine-bazillion players like todays milliion pound gorilla mmo was its open pvp and twitch based gameplay. The community that followed is a byproduct of the gameplay itself. During it's release, we also had dikumud inspired releases such as EQ, AO and UO among others which had a vast following of players. I believe the game filled a niche market that was almost non-existant at the time, being that E&B was the one of the only other folks in the space combat market. EVE was set to follow but does not deliver in the same way the concepts of JG do.

To finalize my point on the whole "flop" scenario I will ask you this: If it is such a bad game, why wasnt it shut down earlier? The incoming revenue must have been enough to keep the lights on and pockets filled to consider a sequel. amirite? Hell, netdevil probably even shifted dev resources to make that car game that was chock full of fail only to end up right back where they started.

Your "holier than thou" embrace change rhetoric does not impress me. We are not discussing "who moved my cheese". Your aggressive stance in your post towards me indicates that you are either unnessarily agitated or did not catch on to the fact that I am not an active member of JGC or JGE. I am simply a player that enjoyed the time I was around with the old vets and I respect them for the people they are, even if I didn't like some of them.

And you are right. No-one here owes me respect and respect is a two way street. I didn't personally ask for any, but whatever. All I was pointing out in part of my post is that it is human nature to fear change and ideation. When you enter a community, be it work, school, games, or even forums it is important to understand this. Moving on to figuring why the resistance is there is key to the success of relationships.

It's not about who bought the last one, it is about who is going to buy the next one.

^This is wrong. I heard that one before in my professional career and have seen it fail. Maybe I am misunderstanding. You never bite the hand that feeds and the one who "bought" the last one is opt to go and talk about the transaction, be it good or bad. So which is it? Is it about future gain, retention of previous business or what you stated one line before? Meeting the desires/needs of current and possible new customers at the same time, right?

Take it for what you will baff. Just don't fly off the handle and point fingers when theres nothing at all to point at.

peace

What Baff said about these JG:C diehards coming here and demanding respect was exactly right.

Whether "flop" was a poor choice of word is a matter of interpretation.

Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids.

I am keeping my eye on the new Jumpgate as a possible play choice if they keep the PvP real but avoid the mistakes of EVE such as developer sponsered RMT thru game card purchases and the stupid real world time skill training system.

Whatever the original community may or may not be, there will be numerous new players with the new version which will change the face of the community.

With PvE raiding it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fauning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privelege. - Neanderthal

The comunity is very good and very helpful and welcomes new people.

Theres idiots on all forums who cant articulate their arguments and these people usualy use the flame rudness. I call them forum zealots and I detest them.

Taring us all with the same brush is a bit unfair IMHO and by no meens representative of the majority of the comunity who are welcomeing and helpful.
