I got so much |
One of the two main guys behind the game Herman Peterchek just quit (or was fired) after Gazzilion (dubious company that secretly bought Netdevil) made surprise visit to their offices. Instead of him. They put a guy that was in charge of QA for Warhammer Online This can mean only one thing: The game right now is in horrible state and is nowhere near release quality. Gazzillion figured they are wasting their money on it and want to release it no mater what. Main game designer quits (or is fired more likely) and they put new guy to make some kind of release. The game will possibly get released but unfinished and unplayable. Or more likely be discontinued to cut the losses. Ether way Jumpgate we all hoped for is dead

Ah, I'd wondered why there hasn't been much news. It didn't sound much like my cup o' joe, but I hoped it would launch and I'd get to try it... |

Hermann Peterschenk (sp?) has been replaced by Lance Robertson, who has work extensively on Dark Age of Camelot and later WAR. It's unknown why as the details of Hermann's departure isn't open to the public. Maybe he quit, maybe he was fired, maybe he wasn't willing to release the game in it's current state, and Gazillion fired him and hired someone who would (didn't you get the memo?), with the purpose of scamming as many suckers as quickly as possible during the holiday season. Or maybe Hermann left for personal reasons and they found the talents they wanted elsewhere. Who knows. Let's see the game before we start the hate train on Lance or Gazillion. |

To clear up a further bit of misinformation from Lobotomist:
1) The reasons Hermann left Netdevil are unknown to my knowledge though we know he was not sacked, unless Lobotomist would like to cite his sources then the reason he left remains unknown. (Source)
2) Lance has been working for Netdevil for awhile, and moved to the JGE project filling another role before Hermann had even left the team. (Source)
3) JGE is not being rushed out of the door by Gazillion. As Netdevil, Gazillion and Codemasters have said countless times, the game will never be rushed and the game will only be launched when it is ready. This hasn't changed and JGE will still be what JGE has always been planned to be. (Source 1 Source 2 Source 3)
4) Hermann leaving is in no way a sign what so ever of the state or condition of the development of the game.
5) Lance was not in charge of WARs QA team. When mythic picked up the license, it was Lance who founded the project team and on launch held the title of senior producer. (Source)
Of course things such as a games producer leaving will always be a good source of unfounded speculation.
You don't think there's anything amiss? I'm sat here wearing a red and white gingham dress, and army boots, you think that's un-amiss? |

Warranted speculation is when a game company does not acquire a publisher or runs out of money from lack of backing. Kinda like BP has faced in the past. We still have Scorch which had a great part in the type of game development that was chosen. Namely the vertical slice method. This method combined with Scorches love of twitch skill based space sims will make this game great and Scorch is the driving force behind the attention to quality. They have redeveloped the mission system because of their dedication to quality along with other elements based on the friends and family testing feed back. 1 guy can not end this project which has grown a lot since it's beginning with new talent including a missile defense systems programmer and great art talents not to mention the backing of the corporate giant Gazillion which distributes the lego products (which I have loved since a young lad).
OP is just spewing his usual ignorant unintelligent and unconfirmed degrading nonsense we have come to expect from him.

JGE saw Black Prophecy and thought "oh shit, let's just quit." |

JGE seems to be trying to earn the distinction of being the Daikatana of space shooters. :P |

I don't think JGE is dead. There would be much more obvious shedding of staff than one or two players, even key ones. And if an owning company plays those kinds of games it inevitably leaks out. Anyway, here's some on-hold music while you wait :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1jLTzE_Kvk I decided to make my own JGE trailer last week for giggles. It started out as an excercise to create my own music and maybe put it under the When Darkness Falls trailer that Netdevil did last summer but the music turned out to be longer than the trailer and I didn't want to cut it. So I got a bit mischevious. Posted on the Creative section of the JGE Euro forums but lets face it, not a whole heap of traffic there :) Oh, and I don't see Eve addicts being very impressed with this ;) Roo Stercogburn |

They should have fired the guy who actually thought this game had any chance at all.I said from day it had no chance, not only is the idea weak but there is too small a market to hope for any decent sub numbers. It has the ame chance as SGW had witch is none. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

Actually, I think they're putting all their efforts into Lego Universe (which is probably funded by Lego) in order to raise enough capital to finish building JGE. (which is likely self-funded) No, I can't site any sources, just my best guess.

But they are owned by Gazillion now, so wouldnt their funding come from there? I dont really understand these relationships to well tho. Anyway, my best guess is that they have to redesign most of the content of the game, probally some mechanics too. In a recent post by rockjaw the CM, he said we would ideally get an update by June (E3). But even then, that wasnt a promise. I doubt the info will be a beta annoucement, so i wouldnt expect to see beta start before fall or more likely winter of this year. Even if it is a beta announcement then that would still mean it would be a couple months away. |

It probably merits its own thread, but... community.codemasters.com/forum/jumpgate-development-chat-1081/409396-least-some-form-update.html Should keep the PvP naysayers a little happier |
