This is a step by step guide on how to connect to Jump Gate Evolution's IRC channel..

Step 1 - Head over to mIRC: Internet Relay Chat client

Step 2 - Click on the Download tab up the top

Step 3 - Click on 'Download mIRC'

Step 4 - Click on 'Download Now'

Step 5 - Install it to your hardrive

Step 6 - Open mIRC

Step 7 - Press Continue

 Step 8 - Fill in your name, email (if you want, its not needed)

Step 9 - Fill in your Nickname

 Step 10 - Click on Servers on the left

Step 11 - Search for the 'Quakenet' Folder and double click on it

Step 12 - Double click on 'Random server'

 Step 13 - It should take you back to the connect screen

Step 14 - Click 'Connect'

Step 15 - A whole lot of text should fly up and finally bring up a channels window, in that channels window click 'Add'

Step 16 - Type 'JGE' into the Channel window, with no spaces

Step 17- Click Join on connect then Click 'OK'

Step 18 - Make sure 'Pop up favorites on connect' and 'Enable join on connect' are clicked

Step 19 - Double Click on the channel #JGE

Step 20 - Chat!

The channel has just moved to Quakenet, Please idle in channel to support it.

As Sky mentioned, the official IRC channel has not moved.

It is still on Stratics server with the channel name #JGE-dev.

TBH, I hate IRC, I find it a waste of time and full of elitist jerks, the above stratics channel is no exception to this.

That being said, I also think that if some one else wants to make a NEW JGE channel on a far more popular and populated server back bone like quaknet then you of all people Tikki should be supporting them, and helping spread the word about JGE to as many people as possible.

And not trying to channel them into your own little crappy channel, which is not the official channel, not until Net Devil Host it, or have it on their official site, and no a sticky forum post does not count that's them, or code masters just helping out.

PS. I am very Anti IRC, and spesifically Anti Stratics so I would recomend you try both channels and see where you fit in.

Actually Dvalon the stratics IRC channel was created by Awen the old Netdevil community manager for JGE, and before the developers got locked away and chained to their desks to get their heads down to work on the game, was populated with developers on a daily basis, and is still occasionally visited by Khatie and Dnote, and even in the past afew times by Scorch and/or hermann to do a out of the blue casual Q&A.

That and the channel has also been used by Netdevil, Gazillion and Codemasters to do their developer chats in the past.

So it was quite official in most regards, though not certain on the state of things now.

(And notice the OP tells people "The channel has moved" which seems to be a obvious lie, as it's not the same one as the stratics channel)
