Just because WoW is successful doesn't mean that copying them will make you freaking successful.

Developers need to stop copying WoW.  WoW is Blizzard's thing and it is something they are good at.

Why do you laugh about PVE being fun? Remember all those (admittedly non MMO) old games like Elite, Wing Commander series, Privateer series etc etc etc. They were all player vs environment and they were great fun. They didn't have online versions then. There are some people who would enjoy those games updated to current standards with the ability to chat and group up to do stuff.

Sure, PvE in these games was fun.  They also had one thing in common:

They had joystick control and twitch-based combat. Which is pretty rare in MMO games. In other words, they required a bit more concentration than selecting the enemies in the right order and let your weapons blow them away.

Offhand, I can think of one "space" game that had great PvE without twitch combat:

Homeworld.  But even in that game, I played only through the campaing twice. I think the third time around it would have gotten old.

So I think Jumpgate Evolution has a chance to do better than most in PvE.  But this also brings a challenge for the developers. Twitch-based games need to have MUCH less lag than others. Based on what I saw in the Auto Assault Beta, NetDevil might be able to pull it off but it won't be easy.

I take it since their analysis of the problem they haven't said how they intend to appeal to both PvP and PvE communities?

I really liked Joystick based space sims, I just can't be bothered with PvP, so JGE is on my radar but only if it has proper PvE support via servers or flags (either works for me), but not by limiting where I can go via safe zones. I would quite like to travel to the edge of known space, even if it means a high chance of being destroyed by something in the darkness, I would quite like to group, I just don't want to PvP, I find it painfully dull.

Edit: Looks like I read the wrong thread, safe zones it is, ah nevermind that's one to cross off the list.

So basically you want to fight the same braindead raid boss along with 39 players again and again and again for 6 months or more, for 20ish hours a week while permanently yelling at people to stop going afk midfight and wiping the raid? Then handling the /gquitters because their ship needs XX laser more than someone elses ship? Great, what fun.

Tbh im not from the the full PVE nor the FFA PVP crowd. All i want from this game is to actually go further than the retarded and wasteful linear progression we see in most MMOS today.

I also happen to hate EVE too btw, but theres a few points where that game actually hit the mark is how the PVP and its conquerable territory system , albeit really REALLY flawed, pushed player interaction and roleplay further than pretty much any other game out there.

Want a PVE game? or a so called 50/50 PVP/PVE game? Ok, but completely forget about:

-Player diplomacy .

-Non-shitty economy system that doesnt get wrecked after 2 months thanks to inflating prices OR an economy not based on soulbound items (wich completely negates the point of an economy).

-The possibility of gaining "power" (either money or items) through skill or talent instead of killing shitty space badgers for a year until they happen to "drop" a death star.

-Persistance, since PERSISTANCE = CONSEQUENCES.

There are probably more things to take off the list, but still, those things mentioned above cant even be considered within the same realm as PVP and yet NEED PVP to happen.

So honestly, dont kid yourselves. Ditch PVP and you're completely ditching A substantial chunk of potential in terms of PVE and player interaction.

This is a prime example of carebears that cry when they know not to go into 0.0 space and not get ganked...I name this when carebears cry about being left alone doing mining or PVE but are not smart enough to stay out of harms way and not venture in FFA PVP areas video.google.com/videoplay

Learn to play smart and you will survive ......

I was sort of hoping that they could create content a little beyond raiding or just a backdrop for PvP. I would also hope they are going to put some effort in to the AI. Finally I have a little bit too much of a life to spare 20 hours a week for playing games.

Nope I want to explore and find interesting things to fight, I want to do missions, Privateer style, I want to take part in defences against alien invasions Freespace style, taking out turrets as huge beam weapons flash. I want to do something new each time, I want interesting places to see, interesting stories and subplots. Shooting other players just has no replayability for me, it is probably the most boring content possible, it just gets in the way of me doing anything interesting. To be honest it seems a bit pointless creating a lot of space or story for PvP.

To be honest if it is as reliant on PvP content that it isn't even worth creating PvE servers, sort of smacks that the PvE content will be really shallow anyway.

Quote from interviews of the developer:

"PvP? There will be some consensual areas and some wide open PvP areas, but no one will be forced to play PvP if they do not want to. The refineries and minerals, the items gained in PvP space will be specific to PvP play use. There are also PvP games – players can capture a beacon and take over a sector of space. While they claim that space, they will gain some bonuses. Another game planned is a PvP simulator which will be team against team and matched by computer AI. Netdevil is currently in the first phase of design for this simulator."

It looks like they have listen and indeed have some elements of WOW style PvP.

Yeah .. :)

Please stop trying to make every single game accessible to every single type of player.

I was hoping this title would be an eve like game(the 0.0 space for the most part) , with swg:JTL like game play mechanics (twitch etc where you actually fly your ship not point n click it) - and none of that idiotic leveling system that eve has that reward those who pay the longest subscription times.

Not a space based crapfeast clone of most other crappy mmos out there.

----
my sig: firefox users, install flashblock addon to get rid of annoying flash advertisements. Stupid flash.

I guess you pleading fell on deaf ears.

Developers won't gimp themselves and  cater to only the niche.

Those too smart to engage in politics, are punished by being ruled by those less intelligent.

Does indeed seem that JGE will for the most part, feature a more 'peaceful'  restricted PvP system.

But fortunatly for those of us who actually like to interact with other players, rather then pretending other people flying past you are simple NPCs there to cater to your ever "OMG! GIMME CREDITS!" demands, Netdevil have said that there shall be seperate shards available for players which will have a more 'open PvP' feel to them.

Shame that the final solution was one that will divide the community down the middle and promote ganking on the Non-PvP orientated server... but there we go, whats done is done.

Those to smart to engage in politics, punished by being ruled by those less intelligent.
