Originally posted by Lobotomist Ill have to agree with you, i have NO plans to consider this game, they are not only childish but are unable to think outside the box. More than likely their game will fail "again" as their first one did, its too bad they dont seem to understand games need funding and without subs no new content, art, expan's and so on will happen as their first game did! Count me out!

Lobotomist, you come to the Jumpgate Evolution forums and post a bunch of threads all on the same idea which a large portion of the community disagreed with. You then proceed to argue pointlessly, flame, and just be a prick in general. You have an attitude when you post that says, "I'm better than everyone else here, do what I say," you don't seem to understand that Jumpgate Evolution isn't meant to copy every other game out there. So what if other games have avatars? I'm going to have to agree with Liet, avatars (like the ones in Eve) look really bad and kill immersion rather than improve it.
Now you come to the MMORPG forums and start making things up about a community you know nothing about and never once tried to get along with. If someone new joins the community and is polite, it doesn't matter if we disagree with their ideas we will welcome them in kind. If someone new joins the community and is a complete prick, has little knowledge of the previous game and it's community, but tries to speak as if they do (ie. you) the community will not react well and you'll get flamed for it. And if you think this is unique to the Jumpgate community than you clearly have only been on the internet for a month. This happens everywhere on the internet, especially on game forums. Get used to it.
You weren't flamed because of your ideas, you were flamed because you have a poor attitude. Maybe if you tried adjusting it a little you would be better received. As for calling JGC a failure, I'd like to see you and two other guys write a game in their basement, get it published and have it run for eight years and remain profitable. Scorch (Netdevil CEO) has said that to this day Jumpgate Classic is profitable in a recent interview. I'd hardly call a profitable game a failure. It may not be a massive success but that doesn't mean it failed miserably either. Even now, despite relatively low online numbers I can login at night, find a fight, have fun for a few hours and log off. It may not have 9 million subscribers like World of Warcraft, but it is a long way off of being a failure.
Please stop making up garbage and BS about a community you know nothing about. For anyone who is reading his posts: ignore them. He doesn't know what he is talking about. |

Don't worry, we sort of do anyways, but his posts are fun to read for the entertainment value. I actually went and read some of the links others posted here, and I thought many folks gave reasonable replies to the suggestions. Sure, there were a few flames, but hey, that happens here all the time as well. One thing that's for sure is that if you go spoiling for a fight on an internet forum you'll find it. Thing is you have to chose to either ignore it, or jump right in and enjoy the fun. But you probably shouldn't complain about the results afterwards.

First of all the cardinal rule of internet forums is don't feed the trolls. Flaming back something you say you do because you have a spine isn't "brave" or manly it is counter-productive at best and at worst it is a sign that you are gullible. Trolls post up flame bait TRYING to get you to flame back. They do this just to get a rise out of you, so you think you are "defending your honor in a courageous and manly way" on the internet forum but in reality they are making you look bad. More over anyone who is new to a forum needs to understand less well written and understood rules. There is a pecking order usually established, and often a status quo. Every forum has it's own personality. If you are new you need to spend some time getting to know people, getting a feel for the place before you start suggesting sweeping changes. This very act can be interpreted as disrespectful. I say this not to flame you or give you a hard time but to try and point out a few basics of forum etiquette you seem to either not be aware of or that you easily set aside when someone disagrees with you or flames you a bit. Flames happen it is part of the internet. They are lame, and those who delight in doing nothing but creating flame wars are pretty childish. The only thing you can do to defuse it is refuse to take part in their reindeer games. Much like the super computer in the movie war games. It learns that the only way to win war games is not to play. So… um... don't play. |

Lobo, you know sometimes we clash on some subjects, and sometimes I support what your saying because sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes your right on whatever it is your saying. I read all the crap over on JGE, you are only half right this time. Not really sure what "half right" is yet but that is what I am going to classify it as. You were wrong in stooping down the the 5yr old mentality and flaming back. Usually it is good to just take a deep breathe and let it go, you have been on MMORPG long enough to have learned that by now, hell we have one of the MOST brutal forums on the net, with the amount of garbage that flings out of this place. You were right that the JGE evo community does appear to be a very "special" group of individuals, not really a place I would want to "hang out". So that makes you "half right". Now another thing you are right about it is alllll these goons posting with 1-10 post totals. They are JGE people making their way here. That is what upsets me, YOU JUST HAD TO BRING THEM HERE DIDN'T YOU. Couldn't leave them over there on the JGE forums to cause ruckus, you had to leave a trail of bread crumbs back to us. Like we here at MMORPG need anymore immature bile on the forums. I could choke you out for this crap. THANKS LOBO! |

So basically what you are trying to say is. JGE forum community is like this: Got the picture ? And this is a normal forum community
You get that for posting a topic - JGE should have picture Avatars ...
And what now? Somebody posted a link to this topic on JGE forum , and alerted you all to salvage the situation? Mate, you should salvage the situation on your own forums, and try to be more friendly to people and less hostile. What you are doing is just hurting the game. Dont you understand that ?

The discussions on the thread you mentioned seemed to me pretty normal for a thread that is repeated too often already. The avatar issue seemed to be done to death and some of the flaming originates from this fact. Also, it is a subject that has been discussed by the devs. With as reason that this subject will be pushed back to keep the release date ontrack. Any fan of a game in development will try to keep release date ontrack. And the one thing they fear is that a horde of 'outsiders' (a fuzzy label I agree) might give the marketing/ceo/ or even the developers the impression that in order to capture the target-market, they will need to add this feature at the cost of a later release date. Such an event might be enough to push any fanboy into a rabbid frenzy. Just look at Sony's decission to make SWG more appealing to a younger audiance. (Still foaming from my mouth here)
You seeked out a sore spot, and tapped on it, turned around, pointed and shouted "See! Agression!" Not impressed. |

no, the real question is why do you feel a need to drag jge and the community down in the dirt? If there's iffy community standards, show the evidence then stfu and let people decide for themselves, instead of making it some kind of personal vendetta against them.
You must be a swg vet.
