. . .like with in weeks, and I mean playnig with in weeks."  He goes on to say, "We're  not going to put it out there until we feel we have something better than everything else....and that's going to take as long as it takes."

I dont know. Smedley actually comes across as having uncertain confidence in the title, and with this title having been so underpromoted and publicized,I dont get the sense SOE is actually confident in what they have at all.

Personally I trust Smedley less than I do Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf :

I really don't think he has a clue as to what's going on around SOE these days. As long as the building isn't burning down and he isn't being fired, which apparently there isn't anything he can do MMO wise to get fired, life is just peachy being the Smedley.

But yeah, I've noticed there hasn't been alot said about this title in the works. Considering all of the negative press SOE gets it doesn't surprise me PR wise that they are flying under the wire...taking the Bioware "hush, hush" approach to games in the works on an extreme level.

Granted I will never play another SOE game as long as I'm on this earth again so I'm not personally vested in any Agency news, looking at the industry as a whole you'd think SOE would be trying to bounce back PR wise. Which lends to your observation of them not thinking what they have is that great or it could be they just don't want to make any major PR gaffs before the thing is shipped.

"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

Smed is such a detriment to Sony and they just don't get it. Yeah, he's a one hit wonder and everything he's touched since has been half assed and built around what seems to be Smed's personal motto; If it works for them it'll work for us. Piss poor copy cats. Oh yeah, Farmville is doing good so we have to make our own shitty facebook app. Browser games are not the way of the future. Farmville is popular because there are a lot of bored housewives out there with too much time on their hands and it's better for them to get their entertainment from a silly social game than by screwing the neighbor.

I agree with this statement, over time i think it's going to show that you're not far from the mark.

The advertising for this game is light and i hardly ever hear about people talking about it in other gaming forums. I really think this game is going to go down the Matrix Online road, decent combat but little content.

I am a bored housewife (not sure I have too MUCH time on my hands, but I do have SOME) and frankly, I would RATHER screw the neighbor than fall to the disgusting depths of depravity known as Farmville. And my neighbor isn't even attractive. Farmville is a BLIGHT on the very definition of "games."  Farmville isn't a game, it's an utterly craptastic advertising application masquerading as a "social game," and some of us (even bored housewives) are intelligent enough to know that. Just so ya know. ;)

Given the choice.....my neighbor would be getting a two for one deal, because my partner, Sharon, who is ALSO a gamer,  wouldn't want anything to do with Farmville EITHER.

EDIT: And yes, I do play an SoE game...so sue me. It certainly doesn't mean that I think Smed is a rocket scientist, nor does it mean I agree with EVERYTHING SoE does. It's just that...well...there aren't any other games out there right now that I enjoy. So until SOME brave developer comes up with something better....this is my decision.

I always said that the Agency would be a flop.

No one has ever been intersted in the concept.

They should stick with EQ3 and make it a real MMORPG, non of that EQ2 non sense.

LOL...No offense intended. ;) I was just saying that woman folk should concern themselves with preparing a tasty dinner for their man rather than mucking about with video games... Or screwing the neighbor.

SoE is ok by me. I didn't like SWG before the NGE so I'm no Sony hater, Smed just sounds like he has no clue what gamers want. He's blinded by numbers and doesn't understand that you can't have success by mimicking what's popular. When Transformers were popular did that mean GoBots were too? No. When Cabbage Patch kids were all the rage did Lettuce Head babies capitalize on their success? No. Beanie Babies/Some other stuffed toy? No. Copy cat tactics never work, and the gaming industry as a whole has yet to really figure that out, Smed just makes a stutteringly easy target...

Before I bash/praise SOE on The Agency, I'm going to wait until I get my own hands on it. I disagree with a lot of things that SOE has done regarding their games, but if the game still entertains me, I will play it. I don't care who developed it. I'm not going to take a stand against a company unless they do something ethically wrong.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for Fan Faire info for sure. It can't come soon enough

I couldn't agree more, which is why I still will play (and DO play) SoE games IF....I enjoy them. So far as I know, they haven't hired any six year olds to work in sweat shops to make clothing for them to sell, and gee....that story, as horrific as it is, doesn't keep me from buying things from Walmart because....I only have so much money to work with. So if I'm expected to abide by some lofty set of morals as opposed to being able to clothe and take care of my family appropriately....well....tough luck.  I realize that sounds harsh, but I'm being honest here rather than feigning some righteous indignation.

I feel the same about games. Whoever makes the product that works the BEST for me and my family....gets the money. Frankly...while there are indeed some immoral companies, I just don't have the finances to allow me the LUXURY of worrying about that. And where games are concerned....we're usually not dealing with those types of things anyway, more with gamers who disagree with the way a company has handled it's customers. And I guess until they do something that affects me PERSONALLY....I just don't care. Sorry.

How much time has to go by before we think he was wrong about playing within 'weeks'  cause we are up to 19 days now. Not gonna call him a liar by any means but the list of promises and estimates by developers that did not come true are endless.  I understand that many statements are made in good faith and problems come up, or they are just hying up the game, just wanted to get some of your thoughts on this ?

I hope they make the game ore action oriented because from what I have seen it looks interesting but not sure since we have not seen that much.

Has this game even went into a beta test phase?  I don't recall hearing anything about that.

I'll take a look at it since the theme of the game is interesting enough on its own and some of the mechanics look cool.  From what I have seen from developer chats and demos, the impression so far is a game with repeatable 15-20 minute adventures that will be interesting for a few weeks, something like the DDO was at release.   If they get some sort of functional shooter pvp action then it might have legs stand on for more than a few weeks, but I'm not holding my breath seeing the history of pvp soe has offered.

With all the communication blackouts, designer turnovers and general lack of information on the game I just can't shake the that bad feeling from other mmos releases that shared similar paths leading up to release.  The whole promise of it won't release until it is ready, but expect it in a few weeks?

its being made by 'Sony online entertainment" or at least being published by them right?  Ok lesson learned from everquest 1 & 2 AND vanguard  and SWG you get the point.  Don't get your hopes up.  They SUCK at running online games.

A man or "gamer" should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.

EXACTLY.

I love EQ2.  I mean I love, love, love it.  To ME, it's the best MMO in existence right now.  And as long as SoE makes a game that entertains me and is enjoyable TO ME....I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks about it.

I don't know whether The Agency will be my cup of tea or not, and I know SoE has made many many questionable decisions, but....I judge every game independently, and until I play the game....I'm not making any premature judgment on it. As far as doing something ethically wrong....SoE would have to be clubbing baby seals or something for me to quit playing EQ2.  OR....someone would have to make a game that I enjoy MORE. I haven't heard any news about the former, and the latter has yet to happen, so for now...SoE is fine by me.

The Facebook game....is actually a brilliant marketing tactic, although it gives me visions of millions more "new MMO'ers" flooding the game eventually, ala WoW (although I'm quite SURE there won't be THAT many)....and non-MMO players flooding the genre hasn't proved to fare well on the challenge level of games lately. The more "new to the genre MMO'ers" that show up....the more the developers seem to keep dumbing down the games rather than expecting the new "arrivals" to learn to enjoy the challenges that USED TO BE inherent in MMOs. But....only time will tell.
