The developers of Perfect World International have provided us with this developer journal highlighting mounts in their MMORPG.
The sun is slowly setting as you return to town. Returning from an epic journey your inventory is packed to the brim. Wearing only the most elite equipment, your armor seemingly changes color as the sun falls past the horizon. As you make your way into the town square, head begin to turn. Players stop what they're doing and look in your general direction. Some players pretend to ignore you and seemingly go about their business; but you know on the other side of their monitor, the user is maneuvering their mouse, pivoting their camera controls to follow you.
Read All About Mounts
Funny how the only mounts they talk about are those in the item store. This game is very pricey, probably the most pricey game out there when it comes to item store costs.
Cheapest riding mount from the item store is $10 and the most expensive is $50. That is just for a basic mount. Flying mounts are similar in price. There is a in game mount, the horse, that you can buy, but it is very pricy, 2.5 million of in game currency. The basic mount can be speeded up with mods purchased from the item store. So can the flying ones, although it is more expensive to speed up the flying mounts. So you can spend a lot more on your mount before you get the end result.
You don't have to buy your mount from the item store, many players sell them for in game currency.
Basically, you get a free flying mount at 30 and that is all you really need to enjoy the game. Elves have wings at start, so if flight is your thing pick an elf class.
These dev journals are not very useful, all they show is eye candy and don't actually discuss the subject they are oriented to.

Love how you can only tell the male from the female toon by the breasts.
They make male toons so effeminate, and female toon so prepubsescent.
Can you fight from the level 30 mounts ?
You cannot fight from mounts. You also get knocked off easily if it's ground based.
