I've played every mmo out there, starting with Ultima Online back in 1998 followed by DAoC and then up through WoW, LoTRO and most if not all F2P. To me, talk about immersion, our biggest offerings; WoW and LoTRO suck bad, they are waay too cartoonish and feel so "G" rated. I tried PW, walked away like most flamers, and found myself giving it a serious second try and have an open mind when my girlfriend who knows nothing about MMO's, fell in love with this. She was right. I think what we have today is just too much choice, and forget to look for what really is good in an mmo. Sometimes it takes a fresh perspective to snap reality back in place. No other MMO North American or F2P that is modern has all the features, and in a BETA product, that's right read on... We should remember that as "polished" as this game seems released at the moment; it's officially still in beta phase for the english server. Yes that's right "english" server. Even though it's based in Malaysia, it's specifically for North America/Europe, and if there's lag during the day, it's your ISP, not because the server is in Malaysia - business hours here make any connection lag depending on your Global service provider. With fibre optics and data running at the speed of light over the ocean, it's still your copper coaxial or phone lines that share your residential service here in the homeland that get bogged. Trust me, I'm in Canada right by New York, and I can play PW during a friday at noon with no lag whatsoever, but the odd time, say on a monday, my connection gets bad, why? Because Rogers Cable isn't exactly as worried about me during business hours as they are about servicing large corporations. So that said, be sceptical, flame on, and forget the real fun of what a great mmo "should" offer. Hate to tell this to everyone but AoC will hugely dissapoint. It will be fresh for awhile, but it doesn't have all the features we all need to check off our "total satisfied list". And for anyone that complains about a grind, ask yourself a serious question; How else does an online competitive game make any feel they've "earned" their status. By giving levels away freely? Come on, us north americans are getting waay too spoiled and lazy. lol. That's why PvP in a balanced game like this is only great for the truly high levels, they've earned it. Factions for lvl 89 and above, territory wars, seiges.... total housing customization coming, total avatar customization control, flying / fighting on mounts, crafting, etc, etc, you people that haven't played have no idea, and the ones that give up, haven't got what it takes to be competitive. The chinese are extremely smart, they work hard with less, and have an economy that's growing off our laziness lol. They did something so simple, easy and waited for. Took the best parts of our best MMO's through UO to WoW and put them into one. All they did was listen to what mmo players have been saying forever. Oh well, better the flamers don't play, because in game they just become griefers ;) So for a polished beta let's hear the griefers, sorry I mean flamers pick apart how boring these choices are; -Deep questing to introduce the game until lvl 20 -Four crafting skills to learn -The most detailed character customization -Flying mounts, ridable mounts, underwater immersion all states can choose to fight without dismounting -Tamable pets for a race, tame anything and LEVEL IT, turn it into an egg at any point and sell it as it increases in value - that's another profession really -Instanced dungeons -Territory wars, and seiges -Factions consisting of "Heaven" and "Hell" only for the powerful achieved over lvl 89 -Community established with only mass player vendors in the main city - don't like it? don't go there, but then you're being short sighted because you go there to SHOP for things players make and find... ahem rares, etc, man, people complain just to hear there voices....(glad they choose not to play) -Guilds, and CUSTOM emblems upload your own JPEG lol. -Housing fully customizable, including the land, currently being polished in original version (I'm glad they aren't like all the bankrupt betas N America has had that throw the buggiest crap at us as final product...Dark and light, horizons, etc, etc) -Marriage system with many features for the more socialably inclined -Tons more already working flawlessly with more features being tested independantly to be implemented when "polished" only. that's not all the features, i'm just not in the mood to write all night. I haven't found one bug yet and it's still in BETA for english, maybe that's why people forget it's actually in BETA because these guys know what the heck they are doing... Like I said before, AoC has pretty graphics for a $5000 gaming rig, but not half the features Just my two cents, off to play now and read up on char builds ;) Have a nice day. A Serious MMO'er. (PS for the guy who was complaining it's all asian speaking people, actually I thought the same way - until I stopped to try and talk to them and learn none of the people that had bad english were asian, they were mostly european or eastern european some Israeli, some middle eastern, etc... except a couple that actually turned out to be from Quebec here in Canada... meaning french.... I thought they were asian too before I sounded dumb and asked why they had chosen an english server when the original game is all in Asian -*** this is basically an international version... I just dislike when people say North Americans don't like interacting with non first speaking English...I'm a Canadian, which is North American too...and my ancestors are from England, but I don't mind the rest of the world :P ) |

God forbid something good comes out from Asia. Most people will always label and pre-judge titles coming from asia. |

Agreed. Scary thing is though that I was being that way without thinking for a long time too. For those of us old enough, remember back to Commodore 64 Roleplaying games, etc? (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure bonds, etc, etc) Point being the game was just a tool, and the fun was our imagination. This game as a tool is pretty flawless, as long as the imagination is there |

Well there you go. We now have two lvl five trolls. Sorry trolls, I said no griefers. you get no troll xp here. AoC, I got in beta played it a bit and I've got a lvl 74 mage on PW. I'm currently working on a newb priest to help others, since it's fun to get along with people and meet people. Like I said, if you have a very new expensive gaming rig, not a $5000 rig from a year ago, but a $5000 rig bought now, you will like AoC's eye candy, other than that, it's just an engine concept that's been copied over and over, with nothing new except directx 10 and high poly counts. Just new eye candy, NO NEW FEATURES and only 40% of those in PW. PW has ALL FEATURES lol. How will AoC have more lengivity ? Because you are looking forward to ONLY ENGLISH SPEAKING PLAYERS??? Then I bid you farewell. No offense but Americans may not like anything that hasn't been democratized yet, and just because China is the only country you can't do it to, doesn't mean you can shop at walmart but still harbor a bias lol. What's my lvl you ask? What's your age I ask?

Ok, so im an American born and raised. But i have to agree with warlock on this one. We do frown on anything that isnt " Americanized". I dont know how many times ive played a F2P game from Asia, and seen American players flooding general chat with: LOL, SOME CHINESE DUDE JUST TOLD ME, "I SELL YOU (ITEM) FOR (some amount of gold" DUDE DONT EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH RIGHT. Which always cracks me up. Something tells me that the asian game designers may be a little more dedicated to make a game for lazy ass Americans like myself, then lazy ass Americans are. Just my little tidbit. Oh, and by the way, this game is a lot of fun. More indepth that WoW, which if you ask, the only reason anyone plays WoW, is because EVERYONE plays it. |
