Hello everyone. i am kinda interested in this game but am questioning if i should buy it. It has been out for so long and trying to jump into games when they have been out for so long always seems to be a pain cuse no one wants to help since they are all cap lvl. So should i try and get into this game or should i wait for guild wars 2? Also wondering if i was to get into it would anyone be interested in helping out a newb trying to just find a good time?

With nightfall I'm sure you can hit level cap within hours.  The latest actual expansion, Eye of the North, added a lot of new content supposedly (Havn't played it though).  I'm sure tons of people would be willing to help you out though once you got in game.  Also, if you get eye of the north you get some kind of personal trophy room or something, and the titles and accomplisments you gain on your Character in Guild Wars will transfer over into Guild wars 2.

If you buy it get the pack that includes all the expansions. I've seen it for under $20. Not bad considering it gives you many hours of gameplay. It's still pretty active. I played it religiously when it came out and wasted many days on it over the years with the expansions. Don't play so much anymore since the guild I was in died, but there are still a lot of people that get on. The upside of this game is you get henchies and if you get Nightfall you will get customizable heroes that you can solo with if you can't find a group. Also cap level is 20 so it won't take you that long to get there.

At the very least it should keep you going until GW2 comes out, and the great thing is by that time you could have some stuff that you will be able to transfer to GW2 or so they say.

I recommend you buy the Trio Pack, which includes 3 expansions at once. GW is worth to play, even if GW2 is coming out.
